I have been looking for a good place to buy some blank dvd's from and came across this site. Not sure how "smokin" this deal is but they do offer a defective product exchange. I pulled the following paragraph from their site.

Universal DVD media has been tested and proven to have outstanding quality and compatibility - SURPASSING Accu, Princo, DVD Pro, RiData, Optodisc, Primedisc, USDM and other media by a wide margin. OEM Media are also sold at retail stores nation-wide, best of all we offer them at almost 1/3 the retail price!

The only DVD-R media 100% compatible with PS2 laser/system besides Pioneer media.

Universal also offers a 1 for 1 defective product exchange policy to ensure highest quality and your satisfaction

I have good luck with rima.com for dvd media.
Got a spindle of 100 Ritek 4x dvd-r media for 120 or so bucks a couple weeks ago, now its down to $115.

they have other brands which are cheap ... dupez only burns at 2x on my optowrite, princo has had LOTS of bad press ... discs burn fine ... but 6 months down the read nobody can read the discs... hmm ... I'll stick with Ritek/Ridata until I see proof that something is better ... just my 2 cents

My first set of dvd media was universal, very good media, came with a shiny topcoat so you could write on it, only problem it was expensive, after that i stuck to ritek and apply my own label to the disc so i can still use a sharpie to label it.

Also, the 1x universal media will NOT burn at 2x on your pioneer, there speed locked in somehow. not sure on the other brands they carry.

100 Pack Universal 4.7GB General DVD-R Media - $1.39 Each - $139.00
vs
Ritek/RiDATA DVD-R 4.7GB, $0.82 ea., 100-Pack - $82.00

100 Pack Universal 1-4X 4.7GB General DVD-R Media In Cake Box Spindle $1.79 Each - $179.00
vs
Ritek/RiDATA DVD-R 4.7GB, 4X, $1.15 ea., 100-Pack - $115.00

As you can see, you get 40% more ritek for the same price, i bought my dvd labels from here, makes it easy to protect the dvd and be able to hand write on it.

Careful with labeling DVDs. The best way to reduce their compatability is to put a stick on label on them. Worst case scenario the label comes unglued (heat from the lasar) and gets jammed in the player.

since dvdr prices have been down recently, anything over $1 for a dvd+r isnt a good deal. not too sure about dvd-r

Just go get some brand name, Memorex, from Amazon.
It's $29.99 shipped for 25 (+/- 4x) so $119.96 shipped for 100.

Name brand means little. Memorex 4x DVD-Rs are CMC brand, and are inferior to Ritek G04s. Trust me, I've burned over 50 G04s, and I'm almost done with a 25pk of Memorex 4x DVD-Rs. The Memorex's aren't bad, but are not up to the same compatability level as the G04s.

One of my players does not play any DVD+/- R's

One only plays DVD+R's

One plays every format I throw at it.

DVD-R came out first and I think the compatability stigma associated with +R was because they were comparing the 1st-gen +R drives vs the 2nd gen or later -R drives. It sounds like they are probably pretty much equal now.

Is writing on the top of the DVD+R disc bad to do? I was going to use my CDR pens to label them.

I will NEVER buy another spindle of that Memorex crap. Out of 25, I might've had 15 that worked. Ritek G03 and G04 on the other hand, haven't had a bad one yet.

TDK dvd+rw has worked great in my experience. All of my DVD players supported it (3 of them) including my playstation 2 I'm happy.

Anything, I have used DVD-R's and DVD+R's with it, just make sure you dont use Nero (though I think the newer version adresses this very issue). Instant Copy works for me.

It seems that now, you try to get 99cents for dvd+r.. what about dvd+rw, they're considerably more expensive.

After thorough testing of many brands, I only get Ritek G03/G04 DVD-R's. They're usually a bit more, but worth every penny. shop4tech.com seems to usually be the cheapest everytime I get a 50pack.

Always check dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia for excellent feedback on media.

I've bought lots of no-name cheap media in the past 7 months. I finally got burned with some media which was junk and would not even burn at 1X, despite being 4X media (it burned fine, but resulting DVDs had massive playback problems.) So I am going to look for the deals like 50 4X Memorex which I got from OD a couple of weeks ago for $50 with free shipping. These work beautifully and at least they have someone backing them up.

I've had zero problems with shop4tech (bought about 5 orders of 50packs). Their free shipping takes about a week via UPS, and comes with the spindles in thick bubble wrap with paper bag filler. To be honest, I did get a package today that was quite banged up, but that could've been due to the heavy winds for all I know (everything else seems to be blamed on heavy winds nowadays ).
