Blank Page Epidemic

I work in the IT dept of a fairly large company. Recently we have had an unusual amount of users with the same issue. IE loads a website and says done but the page is blank...

The websites are usually search sites such as mapquest, google, internet mail, etc. There were a few cases where some pages with the extension asp were showing blank for some users as well. Sometimes hitting refresh or copy/pasting the link in a new browser works.

All research points to reregistering dll files which never works. Other troubleshooting that has been performed was to reinstall IE6 using the rundll command in the start/run dialog. Also we reinstalled SP2 and even upgraded to IE7 to see if the issue would resolve and it continues to do the same thing.

I try firefox on these PCs and it works fine so it has to be a glitch somewhere in IE. I wish we could just have them use firefox but our corporate guidelines prohibit it.

Does anyone have any ideas or other troubleshooting I can do? I am going nuts with this and have a dozen people with this issue and I really hate to have to reimage all of their machines.

yes we use websense as well.... it never gives an error for websense though and it works fine in firefox. our network admins checked and none of the sites in question are being blocked in any way...

What OS are you using? When I upgraded to Vista that actually happened to me too, and I don't use websense.

Problem
When employees internet activity calls an advertisement, they do not see a Websense block message. Instead, their screen is solid white, and does not contain any information.

Solution

Often advertisement pages and banners are a source for multiple Web pages and images from various web servers. Because the multiple sources may not be associated with a single Websense category, the Websense block pages cannot resolve category definitions. As a result, Websense shows a blank white page instead of an actual Websense block page.

To confirm that an employee have tried to access an advertisement page, and received a white page, check the URL. It should include the IP address of your Websense Policy Server, and the communication port, which is, by default, port 15871

The next URL shows a typical format when a URL associated with an advertisement is called.

http://10.1.1.50:15871/cgi-bin...i/ws-session?=12643265

In the URL, 10.1.1.50 represents the IP address of the Websense Policy Server, and 15871 is the port number.
