After feeling all happy about finding one of these in Palo Alto, CA, I soon become very disappointed and frustrated. Apparently, I pick up a defective one. I was having similar problems that some users reported about on eopinions.com, amazon.com, cnet.com, etc. My unit would add random skips in every mp3 I downloaded to it (even though the original files on my PC were fine). I tried on 2 different computers using 2 different operating systems (XP and 98SE, each comp. was dual boot). I tried using different mp3 ripping programs; I tried different encoding bit-rates ... but had the same problem. I even used the original software from the D-Link CD as well as the updated software from their website. Also, the unit's on/off button would only intermittently work. It got to the point where I had to take out the batteries and put them back in (I also tried new batteries) to turn it on.
After several hours, I finally gave up and exchanged it for a new one at the Campbell, CA Fry's. My second experience was totally the opposite. My new unit works flawlessly. The only downside is that I tried using an old 8MB SM card in the D-Link's slot. The SM card works fine in the D-Link, but will no longer work in my Olympus D-360L digital camera. I tried reformatting the card from within the camera and with my Lexar USB Universal card reader; both methods did not work. I knew ahead of time that the SM card might not work anymore with other stuff, but I was still disappointed. Also, the D-Link occasionally mistakens some of my mp3 files as mp2 files and will not download them. Just my 2 cents.
