I have read what there is to read here, at Brighthand forums, and at Pocket PC Passion forums. Bottom line is that there is no real answer yet. I don't really want to f*** around selling this on an auction site after the fact. I can always buy this or another pocket pc later. Performance will only get better, and prices will continue to be competitive. Thanks for your input though...

I arrived home the other day to find two packages.... one delivered by Staples and was very big (It was the luggage) the smaller package was about the size of a laptop and was delivered by UPS. Upon reaching for it, I discovered it weighed nearly nothing. Staples shipped my $.27 bag of Rubber Bands UPS Ground! ... my damn Maestro won't be delivered for another week!

It's got pictures of the new Toshiba (now we know why they were blowing out the current model) that's got a bigger screen and the new xScale processor, no ETA as far as I can tell.
Good news is that it's got a PC Card expansion jacket, which might work with the current model by the looks of it (Update - maybe not because the dimensions of the Maestro are 77.5x12.5x17.5 and the new one are 76.5x12.5x15.9). The lack of a PC card is what kept me away from the Maestro.

My UPS guy tells me that Staples pays at least $4.50 apiece to ship those boxes, and we joke about it all the time. What a waste. When I need something to bump my order up, I try to order little things I'll actually use like envelopes, envelope moisteners, labels, packaging tape, etc.

Not sure why everyone else needed to bump this order up - I ordered the Maestro, the luggage and nothing else, over the phone, and got the $40.00 coupon and free luggage discount applied.

Well....just spoke to a friend at Microwarehouse about the Toshiba E570/Maestro. He has a Toshiba champion that he spoke to on my behalf and was told that there was no plan to offer a keyboard. I figure that if Toshiba isn't planning on offering this accessory, it follows that AudioVox probably won't either. It will probably make it more difficult/slow for a third party vendor, i.e. targus, to swallow the cost of doing the development/qualification of a keyboard for us.

Anyway, I plan on returning mine this weekend...good luck to everyone with theirs...

Woohoo, scored a Maestro and the 3 piece luggage set. They've been out of stock this whole time in the DFW area so out of desperation, I put in an Austin zip code. They have 'em in stock for Austin area so I put in an order to see if they would ship to Dallas. Just checked my order status and it shows the items have been shipped via UPS! SCORE!!

Did you post a similar messege on one of the ppc forums? If not, you might check there, as someone else had the same problem you did (pink screen instead of white).

There's not really a definate answer there, but I'd have thought if the screen was pink instead of white, we'd hear about it more.

Heh, I almost ordered a Maestro on eBay for $269...good thing I thought to check here first before I clicked the Buy It Now button. Now if I can find a CF WiFi card, it'll give me another excuse to upgrade to wireless networking at home.

Or maybe its just out of stock. The deals been on for a while and the product has only been sold at CUSA and Staples and CUSA dropped the item weeks ago. These used to sell for $499 originally so it seems that staples was probably just liquidating their stock at the $299 price. You gotta be quick when you want a deal around here...

BTW: You can check CUSA for their stock. Their website gives you realtime quantities for certain stores. It sells for $289 there (no rebates though).

Thanks for the input. I actually jumped on this and got one, and am quite happy with it. But yesterday I was talking to a good friend, and he said that he would like one also. I gave him the details, but everywhere he looked, he got an 'Out of Stock' message. If there was a way to check availablilty for the whole US, and not just one zip code at a time, it would make searching for one much easier, and would be helpful on future deals as well.

Yes they do, it's called a Thera. Kinda nicer looking than some of the palm models but still don't see myself useing one.

Now with the model selling at Staples there's a phone hookup you can get for it. It's a audiovox that I believe Verizon is selling (or maybe it was Sprint). I remember the phone and PDA combo was $499. But I'm not sure if any other Audiovox phones will work with the PDA (I'm assuming it should as many phones from the same manufacturer use the same connectivity between their phones, not all but some).

On the side of the unit, hidden in one of the blue strips that runs down the side is a tiny, recessed reset button. Push it with your stylus or the tip of a pen. This is how you do a soft reset when such things happen. It's like a regular PC--sometimes they just need a kick in the arse.
