Which one of the 2 boards is better and what is an ACR slot used for?
I'm using it for my HTPC which is planned to be a silent PC (the reason I got fanless video cards and the Antec Sonata). I don't know if I'll need the SATA connection. I'm planning on having 4 IDE drives in RAID 5 (so I'll have to buy a RAID card since neither MB supports RAID 5).Originally posted by: HeroOfPellinor

I was looking specifically for the A7N8X-E because 1) if has four mounting holes for my heatsink, 2) the MB power connector is on the right side of the socket where it can be easily moved away from the flow of air for my silent rig, and 3) it has SATA. Other than that, the MSI is clearly the more feature rich of the two boards. Though, if you just want a motherboard, I'd go for the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra. If you just want SATA, then the DFI NFII-Ultra is about the same cost new as the MSI. This is only really a good deal if you had your eye on these specific models as I did for the reasons stated above.
ACR, if I recall, was supposed to be used for some small modems or something that never caught on.

I decided to get the A7N8X-E Deluxe to upgrade my XP1600. I'm kind of out of the loop on hardware. Whats the best price/performance cpu to pair up with that motherboard?

If the only thing the board wouldn't do is boot @ 200 FSB, there was likely nothing wrong with board but rather the memory, bios settings, or insufficient power supply.Originally posted by: skeptic
Darn, I had to RMA mine. I tried 3 different sets of RAM on it and it would not boot when I set the FSB to 200 (400mhz PC3200). This is my first RMA, so are they going to send me another refurb?
