The only problem I had with the "barebone" refurbs is that they are barebone. They don't come with the extra cables and stuff you might need like for firewire risers. Other then that the refurb MB I got from NewEgg was great.

I got my refurb A7N8X-Deluxe from Newegg back in July of 2003 and it has worked fine. No problems at all, just doesn't come with cables or any accessories jsut the motherboard.

I was looking specifically for the A7N8X-E because 1) if has four mounting holes for my heatsink, 2) the MB power connector is on the right side of the socket where it can be easily moved away from the flow of air for my silent rig, and 3) it has SATA. Other than that, the MSI is clearly the more feature rich of the two boards. Though, if you just want a motherboard, I'd go for the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra. If you just want SATA, then the DFI NFII-Ultra is about the same cost new as the MSI. This is only really a good deal if you had your eye on these specific models as I did for the reasons stated above.

ACR, if I recall, was supposed to be used for some small modems or something that never caught on.

I'm using it for my HTPC which is planned to be a silent PC (the reason I got fanless video cards and the Antec Sonata). I don't know if I'll need the SATA connection. I'm planning on having 4 IDE drives in RAID 5 (so I'll have to buy a RAID card since neither MB supports RAID 5).

I looked at the Shuttle board, but it only has 2 USB ports (I need a lot of those). And since it's for an HTPC, I'd like something that is MCP-T preferably with the "SoundStorm" certification.

I have ordered probably near 20 motherboards from them over the years, for my main machines and renderfarm. I would say 75% of them came with everything. 50% looked as if they weren't used at all. I only had one bum one, easy as pie to get a refund.

I decided to get the A7N8X-E Deluxe to upgrade my XP1600. I'm kind of out of the loop on hardware. Whats the best price/performance cpu to pair up with that motherboard?

Take a look through this thread. I just received a reburbed A7N8X Deluxe through newegg & this is what I'm putting in along with an ALX800 & a panaflo 80mm H1.

Must not have read through much of that thread the 2400 Mobile is a better overclocker than the 2500 & if you get a good one even better than the 2600 mobile.

I got one two weeks ago for $49 from newegg. The mobo came in white box with NOTHING included. Not really a problem, except I could've used the I/O plate. Believe me, this is one I/O plate that you're not going to have just hanging around (4 USB, 2 LAN, 5 channel sound, etc.). I contacted ASUS to get one.

yep, my experience with newegg asus refurbs is that more often than not, it's a bare board. MSI seems more likley to come in retail box w/accessories though I have lesser experience buying refurb'd MSIs.

Hm. I got a KT6V-LSR on the cheap at the Egg, and I was damn lucky it came with everything including the LED diagnostic pannel. I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $35, and I was lucky it worked. It needed a gentle smack against the hardwood floor to get it to work. Don't ask me why, I don't recommend you try that on bum boards

I picked up an ASUS A7N8X-X refurb from Newegg the other day (arrived yesterday) for $29 shipped!! and it works beautifully!!! I couldn't be happier with their refurbs!! I think I have sent back one refurb board out of about 15.

Darn, I had to RMA mine. I tried 3 different sets of RAM on it and it would not boot when I set the FSB to 200 (400mhz PC3200). This is my first RMA, so are they going to send me another refurb?

Email asus and they will send you a FREE I/O plate.. Or if you want you can pay $20 for the full accessory kit.

If the only thing the board wouldn't do is boot @ 200 FSB, there was likely nothing wrong with board but rather the memory, bios settings, or insufficient power supply.

I did not buy one of these -E Dlx but rather the non-E, same but no GbE. Even with relatively poor FAR memory (a pair of Kingston mystery-chip 256MB PC21000 in dual channel mode) the board still tests stable @ 200FSB, sync'd memory, 8,3,3,3... not that I'd recommend running at such loose timings but if you don't want to take down one of your better rigs so you can use memory to test new board, adjusting timings can allow substitution of leftover memory till build is ready for service.
