Blinds are, in most cases, a one-time investment. I think it's ok to spend a little more and get quality blinds.

Also, what do you think about cellular blinds for second floor windows?

i have them in my bedroom and they don't work very well

room gets way too bright and hot with the blinds down

the prolly only block about 45% of the light that comes in

so I would not recommend them unless you are getting curtains as well

Then get the Room Darkening Cellular blinds that are lined with foil. Complete darkness and they insulate very well.

I got Levolor Cellular blinds at Lowes. I believe they ranged from $50-70 for room darkening and $40-60 for light filtering.

Will check out BlindsToGo this weekend but not expecting much better either.

Any other place where one might find cheaper blinds?

wal-mart?

Man I was going to say try the Home Depot/Lowes/etc stores for big savings ....

Personally I find their selection the best bang for buck esp with coupons/sales.

JC Penney has some really good sales too that you can sometimes combine with coupons.

Without knowing your requirements no one can say if $100 is a steal or robbery.

Not surprising. I payed $50 for 2 white pieces of cloth to cover the window behind my computer. Blinds gotta be somewhat harder to make and market than that...

I'd love to see the wrecks that some of you guys call home, with all these suggestions of sheets and aluminum foil...

BlindsToGo is like 5-10x more than Home Depot/Lowes - I wouldn't waste your time. Are you renting? If so, stay with HD/Lowes!

They're having a sale, too

JC Penny

hey man, thanks a lot for letting me know about the JCPenny sale. After visitng many places, we ended up at JC Penny because their sale prices were the best. Ended up getting 2" Bali faux wood blinds in dark wood for around $300 for 4 windows. Wouldve cost us over $500 for comparable blinds at other locations. JC Penny was even cheaper than online places. Thanks!

Wireless blinds. What a time to be alive.

Does it use blockchain technology and cloud as well?

Actually I have some custom louver style plastic ones for my big picture window and I always though it would be cool to automate them. Might experiment with servos and arduino one day. There are 4 panels split in two sections so that would require 8 motors... lot of wiring to try to make look decent. Would need slow geared servos too which might be hard to find as most servos are for RC aircraft and stuff and are meant to be fast.
