i currently have a contract through cingular and after my absolutely horrible experience with thier local corporate office, i said screw this and called to cancel as soon as i saw this deal, which is why i posted it here, hoping others could benefit from it too. I went from 350 anytime minutes(which they actually downgraded to 250 minutes on me without telling me, one of the reasons i want to cancel with them) and free nights and weekends for $39.99 with cingular to a much newer phone and 600 Anytime minutes and i still keep my free nights and weekends with t-mobile. i dont know, but this seems like a much much better deal to me. and since cingular was cutting my minutes on me anyway (some bullsiht about a promo being over), this worked out great,
i hope it helps some other people out too

if you live in los angeles area visit a few of the hundreds of cell phone shops in montery park, rosemead, or rowland heights, you can get these phones for free and then some money back in your pocket.

Why does amazon ask for credit info? Do they activate the phone for you? Or do you do everything yourself? The problem is, I need a phone, but I don't have an american driver's license (I'm a Canadian student studying in Connecticut).

Thanks!

Michael

Edit: to continue my question... do they set up the tmobile account for you? Or do you do that separately? Can i get someone else to buy from amazon, and fill the credit check part out, and then just use my own info to activate later? Like, TMobile will activate without the driver's license... Thanks!

It appears that amazon does activate or have a part in activating the phone number, I was given my new cell phone number with my shipping info.

Also, it is not a problem if you want to change the number once they activate it. I just called in and T-mobile changed it to a Santa Monica number even though I was back home in Nor-Cal for the summer. Silly Verizon claimed that I could only have a nor-cal number, that I would have to change it when I got back to UCLA (extending my two year contract!) and didn't even get reception near my house!

Honestly though, I think cell phone reception is hit or miss. I have yet to hear of a single service that works well everywhere. Verizon, suppossedly one of the best, was completely unusable at my house (Cingular also has problems) but T-mobile works great (Aren't they sharing with Cingular ... Crazy!). However, I will admit that T-mobile does have some problem areas also. I guess the best thing to do is try to find someone with the service you are interested in, and try it in your particular area. Don't rule T-mobile out though, they definitely have some of the best deals and rate plans.

i heard the same same about tmobile too.. i heard they suck d!ick ....but some are telling me they are alrite..

just for all ur information .. Motorola is coming out with thier T720 phone .. looks sweet too ..
it will be available for both T-mobile and ATT... see cingluar is missing out again

I would get Cingular again, but Cingular is just not up to the market ... sucky phone .. and not getting on with the trend and get the new phone ..

but again.. regarding to tmobile ... lets put it this way... T-Mobile use the same tower as Cingular .. but
you all know how Cingular is, and Cingular did not lend T-Mobile all the tower too.. so you can see how GOOD of reception T-Mobile will get...

I hope T-Mobile will merge with Cingular ..

cingular has t720 phone... i believe they had it about 3 days before t-mobile if you want to be pin-pointed..

t720 has very weak battery life... can't blame it tho.. it's color screen.. but it's just that samsung s105 has lasted 3days for me.

planwise, cingular has best feature... w/ the rollover now at every plan (home, national, and even family)

no way you'll be able to get it for -$ .. unless you enroll in $99.99 plan and it'd be after the MIR.. and from business point of view, it won't make sense because the profit will be less than what 5 gallons of gas cost.

if you're going to get a new phone with tmo, don't make it the v70. it's got a sexy look but that gets bland after about a week. it horribly lacks features or usability. the t300 and s105 are both far better choices, as well as the new moto. tmo's customer service is far better than any i've experience (going through cingular and sprint personally). for the $30 package you also get 1mb of t-zones, lets you browse the net through your phone.

tmo also sends you your unlock code if you request it (i got my unlock code within the week i activated my phone).

just got the phone today (motorola v70) and i couldn't be happier with it, small, sleek, and MUCH better reception than my other phone (a nokia 3360 w/cingular).

and the smart card made activation super easy, i received a text message with my mobile number and i was all set. can't beat simplicity!!

Allows you to use a SIM card from another company.

TMO/Vstream unlocked my Samsung R225 before i came over here to Europe so that i could use a local provider and save CRAPLOADS of money.

Guess there are a couple of these threads going now. Buy.com has some decent deals on phones w/activation also. AND they are providing most of the rebate up front (like Instant Rebates). I'm happy with AT&T in my area (central PA) and got new phone, 12 month service contract, better minutes, free long distance, text messaging, unlimited nights and weekends (9pm to 6am type) and will get paid $9.24 to make the switch after the $50 rebates (two phones - two rebates). I could have selected phones with NO additional rebates. Seems a least as hot as the Amazon deal if you like the buy.com offerings.

It's kinda weird, I get horrible reception with my cingular (my friends also get the problem with their Tmobile) around the westwood area...

Cingular has worked perfectly fine for me for the past 5 years in Riverside, Ca and Irvine, Ca.

The person who still has the 350 mins plan, that plan was almost 1 1/2 year ago... you should have updated your plan to 500-600 anytime mins for $39.99 which has been introduced for the 8 months or so.

I just called in to tell them that I wanted to cancel my phone (with Cingular, contract ends in december) telling them that I want a new phones that some other carrier have and they told me that they'll give me $175 credit if i purchase a phone through them and keep my account. I guess I'll be sticking with Cingular for another year...
