If it cuts down on people trolling their forums, good for them. When I played wow it was absurd how many trolls there were and getting good advice/help was next to impossible.

This may be a way to get WoW to die down a little in preparation for their next MMO?

personally to cut down on trolling they should just let you see all the chars on someone accnt no matter who they post on. now this wouldn't stop people who use a separate accnt to troll on (some do) but it would cut out a lot of it if people couldn't stay anonymous on their single accnt

The class forums had some good advice, at one point anyway. I played from release till about this time last year. They really weren't all that helpful but sometimes you could find good information if you looked past all the bullshit.

Not if your name is tied to your billing info.

Current real ID name is tied to what you used when you registered the accnt NOT your billing name. i know this because my billing name and acnt name are different. Because its technically my brothers acnt that i pay for, RealID is his name. Billing CC is my name

also reports are that if you sold you accnt your name still appears on the real ID or some crap

Like it or not, this will cut WAAAAY down on the Forum Trolls.

Always did think it was absurd that the *last* place to go for reasonable advice/discussion is/was the official forums.

Lol.. seriously? I might 'slip up' and divulge my real name or pertinent information? I've posted 600 times on this forum and not once has my real name, location or even what MMO's/servers/character names I've used come up. You have it backward. If you just had someone's real name you could attach it to the real person much easier by comparing it to facebook results and other postings.

You realize people have been stabbed, murdered and kidnapped over MMO related stuff right. If they want to prevent trolling just attach the forum name to your battle.net account (which it already is) and just ban the battle.net account entirely (from all battle.net games) if you need to be banned for trolling. Champions Online has a brilliant forum/game interconnectivity while maintaining privacy.

Activision/Blizzard is clearly just misguided trying to change battle.net into a social networking site for gaming.
