Blizzard trying an FPS game; Overwatch

Thoughts people ? To me it looks like a straight up rip off of TF2 with static 6 player teams. I'll definitely give it a try, but Blizzard is known for taking other people's ideas and making them better, I don't see much room for improvement over TF2. Maybe the smaller team size dynamic ? Not sure, small 6v6 games seems like a negative to me.

Wondering if it will be a purchase or f2p with cosmetics transactions.

I would have been totally interested but then I saw that it's 6v6. No thanks, way too small. Give me at least 9v9 (12v12 would be cool too) and I would have been all over it.

Edit: I know the beta isn't even out yet, but the trailer shows a lot of wall hack and instakill abilities. Anyone in the gaming industry should already know those are no fun in multiplayer shooters...

Definitely 'heavily inspired' by TF2, but it looks kind of interesting. There are a lot of varied classes (more than TF2) with the TF2 abilities kind of spread out between them. I wish it was another genre than arena shooter, something like FPS RPG akin to Destiny so you got to explore the class abilities and backstories more.

But Blizz-TF2 fits right into their F2P online gaming plan with Hearthstone and HotS. They tend to 'simplify' games, but I don't think there is much to simply from TF2 since that is already a simple game.

I never got into TF2 in the hour or so of playtime I gave it, but I think this looks like a lot of fun. It'd probably do really well if they didn't stick it with an online-only requirement (they will) and gave it the option for a sort of single player with bots (they won't) and offline LAN (HAHAHAHA).

I like the arcade-y speed and the art style with each character having their own set of equipment to go with character-specific abilities and combat moves.

The 6v6 thing won't bother me, assuming the maps are appropriately sized. If they end up being too small with constant respawn deaths or too large combined with that one spot on every bad map where ALL the action ALWAYS happens ... then I'd have a problem.

If they pull it off, I can see a lot of my time being wasted on this game.

You know you really should give TF2 a chance, it has everything you stated.

That's kind of my thoughts, it just isn't really a genre I've ever enjoyed for more than a few hours. I do think it's a bit absurd to think TF2 can't be improved upon. If there's one thing Blizzard consistently does better than anyone else it's fluid gameplay.

When I was watching the stream and saw the long CG trailer, I was all excited that it might be some sort of story-driven action game. Sort of like Diablo, but not as much of a RPG focus and not isometric. When I saw the actual gameplay video, I ended up a bit disappointed when I realized, "Oh, this is like Blizzard Fortress 2...." This isn't to say that it can't be any fun, but it's just not something that I was really looking forward to, because I was hoping for a more involved story. Although, maybe this will be sort of like StarCraft/WarCraft where there's a single player campaign even though the main point is a multiplayer mode.

They announced that the beta would be in 2015. You need to adjust your beta settings on your Battle.Net account to be eligible (or just go to the site and it will do it for you).

One guy can climb walls, another has a grapler, and the powerful abilities have a long cooldown after each use.

but FPS in general just don't carry the weight with me that they used to.

Animation and characters look good, but from trailers I seen nothing just meaningless killing similar to deathmatch FPS games from 90s. Lack of objectives is obvious in this one.

Definitely looks like Team Fortress 2 which isn't a bad thing because I played the hell out of that. Looks more varied with more players to choose from but 6v6 just seems so small. It's still Blizzard though so they are usually given the benefit of the doubt.

Watched the trailer and it made me want to fire up TF2, which I am doing now. Looks like there may be a few different mechanics though, so will definitely give it a try.

I like the looks of it. I hope it has a little more depth than what I'm seeing though. At first I was thinking it was going to be an open world super hero with story/rpg elements type of game which I would prefer to an arena style game.

I loved the trailer. I'm excited to see how this ends up turning out; I was more excited about what I thought it was going to be though. Anyways, it's nice to see something fresh.
