Daughter is having problems with hubby playing games for hours at a time with the ps3.
My answer to solve the problem is to smash the ps3. Talking has not worked.
My thought is a little mind playing game.
The ps3 is connected via a cat 5 cable to a linksys wrt160n. The linksys is feed by a Comcast modem. Since the ps3 has wifi capabilities, is there a way to disable both Ethernet and wifi at the same time but leave the wifi working for the laptop and other pc’s they have?
Would love to be able to block the ps3 once a night say maybe every 3 days. Then restore everything to normal.
Thanks

If he has some sort of Psychological addiction about it and he agrees to cooperate as a form of external help, then blocking might help.

Otherwise, since he is Not a little child, involuntary blocking would make things worse.

I don't like how you drive, I should crowbar your car.

Stop acting like children and drag him away and talk. He might be willing to give it up if there is a real issue (intervention style). However he might not perceive your issue as his issue. It also may be worth getting a third party involved because what your daughter perceives as "too much" might not matter and be inconsequential.

How many hours are you talking here? 10-15 is a drop in the bucket. Skipping work to play madden is something else.

I agree with what you guys said.
We are talking about 30 hours a week playing one particular game. That does not include the time spent watching tv.
I was acting as a dad/father-in-law/grandfather. I hear my grand kids saying “all my daddy does is play games.”
We have talked to my daughter many times and she is just overwhelmed with working full time and raising kids.
Wife and I have been suggesting family counseling and more and more lately we are seeing the grandkids suffer.
We have considered going to a third party professional to get ideas about what we could do to help.
Smashing the ps3 vents MY frustration! LOLOL
Iamagoon, if you take a crowbar to my car do it to the tires! I need new tires.. LOLOL
JackMDS I guess I vented here and got off subject. Thanks for not pulling this post before.

While I have been known to go a on bender over the weekend, I always make sure it is not going neglect others / my job. If he is neglecting his children then I will agree with you that he needs help. Try to avoid traumatic like busting up his stuff though because he might become angry and unforgiving. Esp if he is an addict. It isn't all that unlike taking away a coke heads coke. Expect a potential explosion...

Log into the router
Find the allow deny section of your router
Find the MAC of the PS3
Enter it, check deny

The question asked isn't a tech question. It is more of a psych question. Yes he asked about blocking a PS3. You can don your eye shudders and scream "block the mac address" or you can address the real problem which sounds like a potential addict. Blocking the PS3 might be part of the solution but that is step 15 and we are back on step 2.
