Blockbuster Online users - Anyone else lose their free in-store coupons?

I printed out one of my two free in-store coupons on Friday so I could rent a game for my son. The game he wanted wasn't in so I didn't use it. I went to print it out again today and now both my coupons are completely gone.

I read an article yesterday about Blockbuster's financial problems and how they were scaling back on the perks they provided. I already know they went from an unlimited number of in-store exchanges to just 5 a month but losing the coupons is new to me. I'm on the $17.99 Total Access plan.

With the in-store exchanges, it is still a better value IMHO. However, I'm highly peeved at the lack of customer relations with this. The move from unlimited exchanges to only five a month was unannounced. And now getting rid of coupons comes not only out of the middle of no where but in the middle of a billing cycle as well.

We're not one of the customers abusing the system getting 100+ movies in a month but I'm seriously going to consider canceling this altogether depending on their response. The fact that they don't have a call-in number is another peeve.

I used both for a while, to try and decide what I wanted to use. I hated Blockbuster. FYI I was on it during the one free movie a week deal. Every single time that I went in no movie was ever in stock.

I've only ever gotten one coupon since I started my account a couple of months ago. I thought I was just unable to find the link, but I guess they've stopped doing the coupons. That's pretty retarded; I never got to rent any games, I was looking forward to getting a new game console this Christmas. These coupons would have been great.

For the price, I'm still getting more movies through blockbuster than I would through netflix, so I'm not going to switch yet. For an extra $1 / month I get 5+ more movies per month.

Their trade-in system clearly doesn't always work right, I'm on the 5/month plan and will often trade in more than 5. Last month I traded in 9 (on my 10th trade-in the employee said I had reached my limit). I also don't like that there's no way to check online; every time I return some movies it's a guessing game as to whether I'll be able to trade them in.

The only issue I've had so far is a set of DVD's not clearing the "received at store" status. They hung for a week in that state before I called the number & had them force them out. They shipped the next 4 discs but it's looking like they may be stuck again. I guess we'll see what happens when I turn these in.

I am completely OK with paying more for the same level of service, I'd much rather they raise their prices (create higher tiers, or whatever) than cut the service to keep their cost down. The in-store exchange makes the service FAR more useful to me than Netflix, even if the cost is higher.

BTW I still have my monthly coupons. If you don't, call them.

yes i am hating the fact they just took away the exchange program. I did the 1 dvd at a time and no wi can only get 2 exchanges per month. i don't abuse it, but i would have like and email or a letter telling me that it was gonna happen.

This always bugs me. You're not abusing the service when it's exactly what was offered and what was paid for. People, like my me and my Wife when we lived a sheltered, boring, friendless life in Florida, got a whole lotta use out of the program. However, I'm not willing to admit that it was "abuse". I simply got what I paid for. It's totally different from, say, the unethical abuse of Costco's return system.

All said, I'm still with BB despite the changes, because it's still the best deal, IMO.

I just printed mine, but as of the 13th when my billing cycle switches, I'll be stuck with the 5 in-store exchanges and no more coupons.

I did receive an email, i believe, telling me about the upcoming changes. However, they simply did not mention the coupon AT ALL. It wasn't until I started googling the price changes that I found out the coupons also were going away.

The unlimited exchanges were great--it's the reason I went to BB in the first place. Now, I'm probably going to switch to netflix. BB doesn't carry HD-DVD, and with the price increase (and/or decrease in value, depending on perspective), I just don't think I'll stay.

MY BB distribution center is in southern MD, about 100 or so miles away from my house by my estimate. The nearest Netflix DC is in Harrisburg, PA--about 20 minutes. I do not believe BB was throttling me, but I do know their turn-around time had a habit of sucking. I could return in the store, see the "exchanged at store" prompt on my account shortly thereafter, but not get a notification that anything shipped for an extra day. (ie. exchanged on tues, shipped on THURSDAY and may not be received until Monday.

I would expect Netflix to have a much better turn around. At this point, the 5 exchanges aren't necessarily enough to keep me.

(and if anyone has a referral or something for a 1 month Netflix trial, feel free to hook me up, although I'm also eyeing up the $18 FatCash instead)

I have the 2 movies a month plan and my free in store coupon went away a month or two ago I think. It sucks but I'm still getting 4 movies for $6/month so I'm sticking with it for now.

Yep lost ours. I was on the 8.99 plan. They changed it to 9.99 and reduced the number of movies I got a month by 42% which includes the monthly coupon. So more money + less movies = a lost customer. Went to Netflix.

We were far more lame. We would get movies Monday, watch them probably that night, trade them at the store, watch those, receive 2 more in the mail by Friday, watch them, rinse repeat.

Probably 6-8 movies a week. Admittedly we absolutely hated where we lived (Vero Beach, FL) and had no desire to go out and waste our money on bad chain food restaurants or compete with the highschool kids at the movie theatre (since those were about the ONLY things to do in that town....not including going to the ocean [which got old for me since I literally worked on the beach and got cooked everyday]). We were complete and utter hermits for 10 months....things are sooo much better now that we're back in Denver.

Well, I still have not cancelled yet, but I'm really looking at it closely.

Anyone know how long I have to return movies that are out once I cancel the service? I returned everything yesterday and expect they will ship out new ones today. My month switches on the 14th, i believe.

My current plan:

BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium $9.99 / month (plus taxes)
1 at-a-time, unlimited mailings
unlimited in-store free movie/discounted game exchanges
Note, if you change to another plan, you will be limited to the pricing and plan limits currently available to new subscribers

I still get unlimited in store exchanges right? I emailed them about 4 days about "Why I don't receive my monthly e-coupons".....I have not heard anything since.

I dont mind as the BlockBuster is on my way home (and two blocks from my home) so I go every other day and get a new movie and wait for the next to be shipped.

The one thing I am doing now is NHL videos. Most of these are sets. How do sets work, do they mail the whole set or 1 dvd at a time? If 1 dvd at a time, thats insane!

Does this mean I still have unlimited in-store and online exchanges? I still have no reason why I am missing my e-coupons.

So I called 866-692-2789 and went through the options to finally end up at "Other".

I spoke with a nice CSR "Aaron" who I asked why I have not received E-Coupons for months. He explained that it was a coporate decision to revoke this to all customers. He said he could email me the 4 coupons I have missed.

Within 2 minutes I received an email with 4 links to free e-coupons. He did not have an answer as to why Corporate decided this, but it looks like I am going to try this every month. I want my coupons that was in my original contract!

Try it!

This is such BS!!! They take away the free game rental a month and now limit the movie exchange to 5 month. I suggest everyone do what I did and that is CANCEL. They can't be charging the same price and remove some of the perks.

If you had an account before the switch, your account will remain the same as it was before. The only thing different is I have to call in and get my free e-coupon for the month - good for one free movie/game rental!

Not true. They will eventually change you over. The changes affected my brother's account 3 months after the annoucements. That was the day we canceled. We are going to keep it if they didn't change us over, but they did and they got dropped in favor of NetFlix. Plus, NetFlix has a larger HDDVD selection!
