Blockbuster Trade-Ins

I'm sure many of you have seen the commercials for the Blockbuster "Trade in ANY DVD and receive at least $5 in store credit" deal. Last night I brought in a kitchen garbage bag full of games and dvds. Things that EB wouldnt take were in there, as well as game that I've beaten and have no desire to play again. I also got married, so I dont think my wife will ever watch Requiem for a Dream with me. Plus I'm moving, so the less to carry, the better!

There are some FAT coupons also floating around the Internet for "Trade in any 2 PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games, get $20 off a preorder game" this should keep much cash in your WALLET. Also, "Trade in any 3 games, get a pre-played game for $4.99" and "Trade in any 2 games, get a pre-played for $9.99" (both work on PS1 trades as well as 'next-gen' systems) There's an automatic "Buy a pre-owned game, get a second at 1/2 price" deal too.

Honestly, I think that I probably would have walked out of EB with at least 1/2 of my games back, and less than $100 credit for everything else. It's a great way to just do some fall cleaning.

They wont take anything without a barcode.

EDIT: Looks as though another Promotion started 9/7 for a limited time. It's YMMV definately though due to the fact I called up corporate to find out why I didnt get the deal and they said 'At Participating Stores only', "Trade in 3 or more games, get an extra $5 per game" Too bad I didnt know about it last night, or I would have found a participating store just for the extra.

EDIT2: I went back to Blockbuster (NON GAMERUSH) today and tried for the trade in 2 games, get $20 off a preorder coupon.. Went with 4 games, got Fable, and Halo 2 preordered with a credit of $48 and change on my account ($20 for each game, $5 went towards each game for the preorder hold, and $8 and change leftover from the credit of the trade ins.)

Here's what I pulled last night

Definately a good deal if you want to trade-in old DVDs and Games. Used it myself this past weekend and walked out with about $80 in credit. I think Blockbuster is hurting for business and is trying to lure customers back... that's what makes this deal so good... they are desperate!

I love the service and use it a lot. However most of the stores are not gamerush (which means they don't take used games) and most of the gamerush stores no longer accept PS1 games for the trade 2 or trade 3 for a preowned deal.

The Blockbuster near my condo is a non-Gamerush store and, as you can see above, took all my games. I guess it's a YMMV for what your Blockbuster will actually do for you.

Weird ... most BB here in the BayArea (northern california) are really finicky about trade-ins ... flat out "we don't do trade ins"

You must have original cover art and to get full credit the cover art needs to be in good shape.

Just confirmed that you can use the Gamerush preorder coupon deal in non-gamerush Blockbusters... just make sure you ask nicely "Can you just try these? No harm in that right?"

Hey get this, my blockbuster is offering a MINIMUM $8 store credit for any DVDs in good condition (cover art, no scratches, etc). Only catch is that it has to be a dvd they carry!

I'm actually somewhat surprised at how good a deal this is. I work at a local chain of video stores in northern California, and have personal discretion (with a few obscure unwritten guidelines) about what to give people for trade-ins, but it is rare that we ever give out more than $4 for a DVD. I swear I rip off people sooooo bad.

Confirmed, the one (of many) closest to me is taking them for $8 credit. I'm dumping A LOT of my old DVD's, all they care about is
1) DVD is clean (no scratches).
2) The DVD has a UPC code (they scan the movie)
3) The DVD is region 1.

I plan to return again later today to dump even more
The manager said he wasn't sure how long the deal would last. Also you can get a credit to your account or a gift card.

Bump for an Awesome deal!

I went to my local blockbuster (Chatsworth, CA) and they give $8 for ANY DVD. Even ones I bought for $5 at Fry's. I traded in 10 crappy DVDs and picked up the Star Wars Trilogy and Mean Girls. =)

Ok, so what we really want to know is - what is the intersection between the set of the DVDs that Wal-Mart sells in their discount bins for ~$5, and the ones that Blockbuster is willing to pay more than ~$5 for.

Also, does Blockbusters sell new-in-box console systems? I don't remember, haven't been inside one for over a year.

This might clear some things up.
They will NOT take any DVD without a region 1 logo on the back. Many older DVD's I had, circa 1999 that do not have a region 1 logo on it. I know these DVD's are region 1 or region free becuase they play in my player. But they are trained to look for the logo.

Also they will not take any movie that they don't carry. I had an unrated version of one movie and they would not take, becuase when she scanned it in, it didn't come up on her computer.

We do accept DVDs/games that don't have barcodes on them, but only assuming they are in our system. We'll take anything in the system. There is a limit of 2 of the same title per day, 20 total titles per day. You do not need cover art or a case for games. The minimum requirement is just the disc, but we prefer to have the other items with it if you have them. For DVDs, we MUST have the box and cover art. I think some stores will allow you to trade in a DVD without cover art/the box, but they will take a significant portion off your trade in value.

The trade 3 games in, get one used game for $10 is good for use of trading in games on the following platforms: PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gcube, GBA. Some stores may not be accepting PS1 any longer, but as far as I know, we're supposed to, and we can. The system will take it.

A lot of the deals you have up there will be expiring January 10th, but there will be new goodies to replace them. If there's one thing we have, it's a load of hot specials. When we get our new booklet for the next time period, I'll post all the new specials that will be upcoming, and hopefully Modeps can update the thread if he so desires.

Game rush stores will sell new and used systems. I don't know about non Game rush and franchise stores, though. Currently, my store in Titusville, FL, has a quite a few used systems, ranging from Gcube, GBA, and N64s. We are completely dry of used/new Xbox and PS2 systems, and I think so are all the other Game rush stores in Brevard County.

Hope this helps.
