Yea the mechanics are tough. Can't stay too far away because he jumps up in the air and lands on you or if you try and stick close you get picked up or smashed with the huge hand. I only attempted him once just to get the insight and I got a few hits on him before I died.

I'm level 21 now so I'll try and beat him. Going in there with 20 blood viles should help.

I couldn't play Dark Souls. Too hard because the hardware limited the encounter. This is not the same.

This is easy to me because the hardware can keep up with the mechanics. So smooth, handles beautifully, looks really good.

As one review said, this game calls to me.

There are some times where I'll press dodge or try and roll or hit r1 and instead I get hit or there is some input issues. I especially hated that during the boss fight.

You need to learn boss patterns. Sometimes a dodge won't get you far enough away. And an attack while being attacked will not protect you.

Yup sometimes I get too excited and press the attack buttons sporadically. Its a learning process. I got to father gascione tonite. Got him down to 50% health but I didn't have time or space to heal myself. I have plenty of viles and I figure I'll eventually get him.

If you open the small music box you got from the small boy when you climb out of the sewer, near the elevator, father gascione will go nuts and it renders him still for a bit so you can get some decent hits.

I haven't gotten him to his final wearwolf form yet. I'm level 26 now and I'm gonna farm some more and level up before I attempt him again.

Picked it up on Saturday and been enjoying it so far. Gotten to the first boss and nearly got him first time, only tried once more and have been farming echoes for a bit now. Mostly trying to time visceral attacks with a shotgun. They certainly don't give you much time or distance to accomplish them, but very worthwhile if you can get it. On the butcher guy near the infirmary (first area), you can nearly one shot kill him with one (might can later with level ups).

Only annoyance I've found is that if I run out of stamina it seems that anything I press during that time gets kind of queued up so when I regain it again they start going, when by this time I really want tomdodge away. Unless I'm experiencing serious lag, I have to assume this is what's happening. Most of the time though the controls feel quite nice. Dark souls always felt like I was fighting in water.

Yup I've experienced what you described as well. I think moves get qued up when you are out of stamina.

Level 26 is plenty for Gastone. It's learning how to handle him that is key.

Music box?

Yea I level up endurance, vitality, and skill. I try to keep them all at the same level. Gosh the loading times suck for farming.

How are the controls compared with previous Souls games? Are they still as tight as the original Demon's Souls and Dark Souls? I've seen and heard a bunch of video and commentary and can't shake the feeling that the controls seem sloppier in comparison with previous games.

FYI I haven't played the game personally so take what I say with a grain of salt if you don't find that to be the case. Youtube frame rates don't always do games justice.

Controls are fine, still has the que up of actions if you press buttons while out of stamina which could get you in trouble. Otherwise they feel smooth, and controls do react to what type of weapon you are wielding.

Controls feel exactly like the previous in the series if not even a bit smoother.

That cleric beast was easy if you just stay on his side or rear.

That axe is way too slow, the cleaver + blunderbuss is the way to go on those initial weapons.

I played a decent chunk over the weekend. The only previous souls game I played was Dark Souls for about 2 hours but didn't like that at all. Bloodborne on the other hand I'm enjoying quite a bit and actually getting good at it. At first I was really hesitant around enemies and slowly took them down one by one treating each like a boss. After some practice and learning the advanced moves and timing I was attacking them confidently and it really felt like going from the hunted to the hunter.

The biggest problem I had so far was with Father Gascione. Once I got use to the shoot to stun ----> visceral attack I had no problems with his first form. His second form was giving me fits though since I couldn't get the timing down to stun him and kept getting hit while dodging. I don't know if it's looked down among souls players but I just ended up using the beckoning bell to get someone to hit me. I just wanted to get to the next area and didn't want to spend an hour getting the pattern down and farming for bullets when I watched.

Overall, I'm enjoying it quite a bit but don't think they'll be a ton of replay value since there's not much difference with different stats/weapons for another playthrough to feel much different. I don't mind though since the game is quite lengthy to begin with and I'm fine with just one playthrough.

I haven't used the beckoning bell yet because you lose insight but I hear if you have too much insight enemies are tougher.

I'm still stuck on father gascione and haven't gotten to his second form yet. I try and use the tombstones as cover and hit him with the cane whip.

The main thing I wanted insight for was to get the small resonant bell to help other players. You need 10 insight for the merchant to appear in the hunter's dream who sells it.

Father Gascione is easiest if you can master the shoot ---> stun ---> visceral attack. Try it on some of the easier enemies like the villagers to get the timing down. At a certain point in their attack animation shoot them. You'll hear a music cue if you did it right. Then get right next to them and hit R1 to do a massive amount of damage. You've probably already seen the animation if you've been backstabbing people for the visceral attack. It works well on some of the larger enemies like the ones with sledgehammers. You're not going to get to the point where you'll hit it 100% of the time but if you can hit it somewhat reliably it'll make a big difference.

Lost 13000 souls on FG.

I didn't know where I was and triggered the event.
Sometimes they will be back on the ground at the boss site. But you better be ready to beat him.

The visceral attack works well, I usually get it correctly on the villagers. I even got it on the cleric beast twice. I have 5 insight now and 2 madman knowledge that I need to turn into insight. I probably won't spend them because I want the resonant bell too.

I haven't found a better weapon than the threaded cane and I'm wondering if I should upgrade it to 93 damage. I found a saw spear in the sewers but its not as quick as my cane and it has the same amount of damage.

I went in kind of hating the game but as you level up and open the shortcuts, it doesn't become a drag anymore. I'm liking it a lot more than the souls games.

Just thinking about another annoyance in that I was offered a few weapons at the start, but after that they are gone. I don't see any reason why I can't just buy them later. I'd like to try the cleaver.

Seems the only things I find are gems and the occasional attire.
