It also helps if you have the rune that makes enemies drop more blood echoes. In hypogean Gaol I get 3.5k each for the boars and another 10k besides from smaller mobs. Just rinse and repeat for 30-45 minutes and you have several levels worth of blood echoes. Plus the snatchers drop blood stone shards and twin blood stone shards fairly regularly. I've managed to upgrade tonitrus to +6 and Ludwig's holy blade to +6 by farming this area for twin shards.

I've been neglecting arcane and strength during my level up procedure. Now it sucks because I need like 5900 echoes to upgrade one area but I haven't gotten to the point where I can get a couple thousand echoes per kill.

? I can easily get that many just getting to the blood beast (which is kicking my ass). Those werewolf things drop a decent amount of echoes.

Another alternative is cathedral ward area, if you go out to the left take out the 2 lattern guys and go up to the right, Theres a really tall guy and left 2 trolls and a guy with a cannon ball on a chain. Neither of them are terribly difficult to take out, but drop a decent amount.

Right now I'm having the problem that I've run out of bullets, so I guess I'll have to go back to the first part and farm for them at some point. In old town I usually just keep a torch in my left hand so I can see better.

Use the Central Yharnam lantern or the great bridge lantern. Either of those should put you in an area that is fairly easy to run around and farm at lower levels. Also, if you have made it to the bridge with the flaming ball that rolls across when you are 1/2 way over,(the bridge leading to Tomb of Odeon) at the far end after you beat the troll and guy with a shield there is a ladder directly to the left of the bridge that goes down below the bridge to a tunnel with a gargantuan boar facing the opposite direction away from you, be quiet and sneak up behind the boar, do a charged 2 handed attack and then follow up with another attack or two and it should die without even having the chance to attack. That alone is worth 3k bloodechoes and the other mobs in the area will be worth another 1-2k easily. Head back up the ladder, or down past where the boar was towards the sewer area with crows and undead guys crawling in the water. Make a circuit of this area and run it several times over and over until you get comfortable with it, this should get you enough blood echoes to level up several times.

If you're really having trouble the only real thing I can recommend is grinding and more grinding.

Yup that's what I do now. Use those wolves. I also am not sure which part of the cathedral has those big guys. Probably the first section that has the door outside facing you as you walk in. I'll need to figure it out for easy farming. Still have to get the guy on the tower or maybe I won't.

The cathedral is good for about 10,000 blood echos when farming.

Unlock the door to the cathedral that has an elevator inside? What area are you in? Where the blood starved beast is?

I got to level 102 today, got Ludwig's holy blade up to +8 and finally got Tiny Tonitrus which does a massive amount of bolt damage.

Only downside is it costs 65k+ bloodechoes per level now

No no, I've unlocked the shortcut to the blood starved beast so I go down the spiral stair case and drop out near the wolves. 2 wolves and a screaming cloak thing to get to the boss.

What I was asking about is there's a door inside the oedon cathedral that's currently locked for me, and I wasn't sure if I had missed something or if it would open for me later in the game. Hwan answered my question. I try to explore a lot so I don't think I've missed much. Do wish there was a bit more reward for my effort in doing so though.


Man the blood beast is kicking my ass. I got it 1/4 way till dead but ran out of antidote and blood vials, so it was inevitable. Haven't gotten that close since. Having to farm echoes now to buy antidote, and probably Molotov's. Also hoping Gascoigne's gear will help me since it has better poison resistance than anything else I've got.

Level 124, costs me right around 100k to level up.

Oh yeah, I know it gets stupid expensive after 100.


I was actually going to go put in an hour or two of grinding to get another few levels before dinner tonight.

I am just glad I finally am in an area where Bloodstone chunks are finally dropping regularly. I had 80+ twin blood stone shards and was going to kill myself if I didnt start finding chunks soon.


Also, the arcane stat = more drops from enemies.

I have a chalice dungeon where trash mobs on the 2nd layer are worth 3500. Big mob, 15-19k.

I had no idea I could do that. That probably would have helped, although I did get it tonight. Ran out of vials so it was a desperate rush to the end, got it on my last swing and then immediately died.

I've not been summoning anything but after reading apparently you can summon papa g to help with cleric beast? Read it on reddit, so who knows but I bet that would be interesting to watch.

Yea I've got about 8 insight and a bunch of madman's knowledge which you can use to turn into insight. You use that to summon NPC characters to help you with bosses. I still have not gotten the small bell that calls other players to help out. The more insight you have, I hear the harder enemies can get.

How are your item drops? I know the arcane skill influences discovery which in turn is how often you get a drop from an enemy. Since my Arcane is fairly high I have been getting bloodstone shards, twin shards, as well as bloodvials and quicksilver bullets. I usually end up filling my storage of both bloodvials and quicksilver bullets fairly quickly and end up selling a good number of them to the shop just so I can keep looting more without it yelling at me that my storage is full. at one point i had over 350 blood stone shards that I sold about 300 of just because I didnt need any and it only takes 16 to upgrade a weapon to +3 anyway.

Also what runes are you using?

Using the following runes
Clockwise metamorphosis +10% HP
Anti-clockwise metamorphosis +10% stamina
Lake +3% physical defence

Though if I am specifically grinding for levels I will switch one of the runes out for the Moon rune which gives an increase to blood echoes dropped by enemies.

From my understanding, more frequent but not any better.
