Just thinking about another annoyance in that I was offered a few weapons at the start, but after that they are gone. I don't see any reason why I can't just buy them later. I'd like to try the cleaver.

Seems the only things I find are gems and the occasional attire.
If you go through the sewers towards the second boss you can find a saw spear. Also, you can buy weapons in the hunters dream from the bath messenger.

the weapon upgrading stinks. I find weapons but I've put so many shards into my starter weapon that it isn't worth it.

I have the same issue with the weapons. I've only upgraded my starter weapon once and I haven't bothered to use anything else or upgrade it past that. Once you get used to how much damage you can do quickly with the whip of the cane, the other stuff isn't favorable.

Regarding gems, if you aren't farming, I don't know how you plan to progress. Farming is a necessary evil. You'll get Gems and BloodEchos that you can upgrade weapons and level with.

HINT: Some of the larger creatures can not get through smaller doorways. So sometimes you can hit them with longer range weapons and they can not touch you. Farming ...

As you progress you will find that gems are practically everywhere and you can easily upgrade pretty much any weapon with little difficulty. I have my 8 or so weapons all up to +6 and I'm only level 67. At the start it seems like they are rare, but later on they are everywhere it seems.

Yeah, I've only been down in the sewers briefly as I just opened up the 'shortcut'. However, the bath messenger doesn't let me buy anything but disposable items right now. I bought the yharnam hunter attire, but that's all I can buy from it.

I've upgraded my weapons once or twice thus far, need a few more gems though.

You will need to go to the cleric beast on the bridge so you can trigger upgrades. Once you meet him or any boss you get one insight and are able to upgrade your character and buy stuff as well as use the shop in hunters dream.

Yes, I've done that already. I'm on level 20 currently. I was able to buy attire before doing anything though. There's just nothing else to buy from the bath messenger, and I don't have enough insight to activate anything else in the dream.

I'm thinking I should not be wearing the sewer armor for the FG fight. It drops your thrust and slash resists. The store stuff would be better and offer more protection for that fight.

I don't remember what I'm using. Probably the sewer stuff I also sold my old gear. Not sure if I kept the sewer stuff or stored it.

I beat FG. Had to use the music box.

I got the Blood Starved beast down to 50% before he decidedly kicked my ass.

You can use the music box early too. It just brings out his second form faster. I think you can use it up to three times. I gotta get around to beating him.

This wasn't an option for me the first build I made, this is the best starter weapon by far and it's got a good scale with skill.
Really? What origin did you choose? I guess if you pick the one with really low stats you can't use it? I keep going back to the cane after using the saw spear. The saw spear is great for up close smaller enemies but for the brutes the cane is the best, as well as for crowd control.

I've been leveling up the kirkhammer sword, and this thing is pure beast mode.

I am building an arcane type and will be using Ludwigs holy blade as my late game weapon(scales excellently with arcane). It is similar to the Kirkhammer, but instead of changing into a hammer it turns into a great sword.

Yessss. I just unlocked Ludwig's sword, and am planning an arcane build for my second character.

I still can't beat the final form of father gascione. Came so close but his attacks are super fast and little room to maneuver.

I've killed Rom and Dark Beast last. It just feels like the game got turned up from hard to impossible. Let me 79 and I get beat down.

Are you:
-using the music box (can be used three times)?
-maxing oil urns and Molotovs?
-taking advantage of the central headstone ring and the larger crypt in the back for the final form?
-using visceral attacks?

What weapon did you choose?

I did most of my damage on the final form of Father G with oil urns followed by molotovs because I wasn't very skilled at that point in the game.

Protip: When not locked onto and enemy, extend whatever weapon you chose with L1, and master the rolling attack. Circle... (half second pause)... R1 and then circle again. You will come out of the roll swinging and then jump right back into the roll.

Obviously this all depends on the enemy's attack combos, but in general, when I'm at a difficult enemy and have to stay mobile, I usually do 2 rolls. The first roll when the enemy begins an attack, and the second to get behind them. I come out of the second roll attacking with R1. From there you can choose to follow up attack or roll. I usually roll.

Two things to consider with this strat: since you are not locked on, you will need to aim your attack coming out of the roll with the left analog stick. Practice this in empty space so you know your stamina limits very well. You should always know how many rolls, combo attacks, etc you can complete at your current stamina level.

The holy sword is good for big and slow mobs.

I leveled it up to +5 or 8 and it was pretty underwhelming. The broadsword is *OK* if you get yourself in a bind and need crowd control on a bunch of weak characters, but the kirkhammer does so much more single enemy damage and is much more deadly in combo attacks with roll. I totally regretted putting blood stones into the holy sword at all.

I've had no issues getting him to final form with my threaded cane. He's a bit too quick for a visceral attack. Once he turns into the final form I use the music box. But I can only use it once as he's too fast to even use it a second or third time.

Seems like when I try to make space while he's in final form, to either heal or use the music box, I get demolished. I try not to lock on while he's in final form as that keeps me too close and I get hit quickly with combos.

I will eventually get him as I've upgraded my cane to do 93 damage. I haven't thought of using the Molotov's. I've never even used the oil urns but I have two of them. I guess it takes time to figure out a strategy for his final form.

On his first form I usually dodge a lot and use the tombstones for cover to heal and strike with extended weapon.

with ludwigs holy blade at +10 it does "A" scaling with arcane, which makes it one of the best late game swords for the arcane spec'd character. Far more damage than Kirkhammer would get me

Beat Reborn and Amygdala today. Stuck at Martyr Logarius at the moment. I'd usually say screw it and leave, but I dropped 150,000 echoes on him and I want those back...

I did end up beating father g. The Molotov's helped me out in his final form. I only used the music box when he first turned and then I didn't touch him at all after that. Just stayed close by and chucked the Molotov's. Now I need about 5200 echoes to level up past 28.
