Blowing the lid on ATI's PR

Now i know everyone and their dog isd upset with rollo for being pro nvidia, and denying the fact that he gets free hardware and that you dont, but hey lets face it ati does the same thing. I was given a 9800xt to play cs and halo on pc at a tournament and have ati stickers on my case and told to talk about how smooth and good the game play is on it. Driverheaven gets free cards from ati to make and test modded drivers. No one has even mentioned driverheaven which has really surprised me. That web site has a lot of bias towards ati because they do get free hardware. Now people may be mad just becuase nvidia made people sign on nda on not tell that they get free hardware, but this just might be the fact that they dont want to get a hole lot of emails for fanboys wanting to join.

Nvidia and ati both make amazing products. Rollo getting free hardware might sway his oppion to be pro nvidia, but who wouldnt i like any company that gives me free stuff. I dont think its the end of the world if rollo sways a few people to go nvidia and someone else sways someone to go ati. Their prices and their performance are so close that it doesnt really matter about whose better than who, it matters what your prefrence is. As for free advertising on the forums, well AT might aswell start banning everyone who says something good about a company, hell might aswell ban someone for even saying a companys name. NV gave the AEG people hardware to play with becuase NV knew they have a good product, ATI does the same, they just doent have and independent comapny to do the work for them.

Its not about the free hardware, every company gives samples away.

I think its more about Rollos attitude and the smoking wasteland he's made of this forum. If he'd been more considered and considerate in his posting I doubt anyone would have cared that he got free Nv goodies.

Actually it wasnt meant to be.

I really do think that recent issues in this forum are more to do with Rollo than to do with Nv marketing.

If you look at the other forums where AEG members have come out they have been met with a measure of sympathy and the whole issue looked at rationally.

In this forum Rollo comes out and all hell breaks loose.

The only difference is its Rollo here and ChrisRay there.

The difference is that nVidia's affiliation with AEG has been well publicized, and it targets forums, alot of companies give cards to review sites like driver heaven or away at tournaments and I assume they have an AEG like presence on most forums but the publicity AEG is getting is proof something that we don't have with other companies.

1) I don't see any crapping from the driverheaven people in here.
2) Giving free hardware at torunaments/events is different from giving out hardware so people can crap forums. In the first one, you get it for attending an event. I've gotten free tshirts, games from going to events and winning a lottery before. In the 2nd case, where you are given hardware to crap, its like a commision. If you don't crap regularly, you don't get the goods. In the 1st case, you can just go to the event, get something and then leave with no obligation.

Companies have been giving out free stuff to create good PR since the stone age. It's nothing new. If you go to other forums it's not being blown out of proportion like this. I imagine if Rollo was not such a convenient target it would not be a big deal here either.

If that happens, it's a shame. A shame that this kinda garbage is used to fill gaps between card releases.

The issue was more about viral marketing than marketing in general since what the AEG does is a covert form of advertising.

Getting a free card at a lan party and having stickers all over your case is a lot more overt and obvious. If ATI did the same thing (bribed respected message board posters with top-of-the-line product to become corporate shills) then I'd be just as pissed at them!

also dont we have some ocz reps in the house here at AT. AEG might not only market but they also help. Rollo also gives out advice and tries to help people with their graphic cards just like the ocz guys in the overclocking forum.

I don't see OCZ people comming in and blasting corsair every time its mentioned. That is not viral marketing. What these AEG people are doing is blasting the opposition every time they have a chance, and creating random threads about supposed problems with the opposition. These OCZ people don't do this. They just have a help thread and answer questions/ help with problems.

Actually there are bad deals from both manufacturers.

Case in point: The 5800U card that Rollo traded for from DAPUNISHER. Guess what he gave him...

A 9800Pro PLUS CASH.

He was convincing people to buy 5800U cards that sounded as loud as a vacuum cleaner and did not even support DX9.

AT posted an article about the cards being an example of "failed engineering".

Are you condoning what Rollo has done over the years?
