So I think I blew my motherboard last night. I was going to install another 4 GB stick and didnt notice it wasnt the whole way in at the top. When I turned the system on all I can hear is the DVD clicking periodically. It wont even go into the BIOS. All the fans are working but I havent had time to check the power supply yet. I have unplugged all the drives, memory, pulled the battery, and still no good. I tried booting to a USB stick and a Linus DVD as well. The system was built around July 2011 and about a year ago I had to RMA the motherboard. Recently the onboard sound card wasnt working quite right and the startup times were getting terrible. Antivirus, malware are all checked at least weekly at the very least so I dont believe any of these were causing any problems.
At this point Im just about ready to just get a new MB and start over. I would like to reuse as much as possible and am looking at a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. There is no overclocking or gaming and the main usage of the system is for office type functions, photos, and occasional video watching.
My questions are:
1. What are the odds of the power supply, or other components being fried?
2. The board Im looking at doesnt have onboard video, whats a decent card under $75 or so?
3. Is there a better choice of motherboard?
The current system specs are:
Win 7 64bit Ultimate
GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H
Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 6-Core 3.2GHz
4 SATA HDs 1 IDE Drive Around 6TB total
12GB Memory (16 if I watch what Im doing)
Full tower case
Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W power supply
