as title.

I've tried several Blu-Ray titles and none of them worked. I tried the same discs on the PS3 and no issues playing them.

I also tried DVD discs on the Blu-Ray drive and I had no problems with them.

I downloaded a trial copy of DVDFab and also VLC on the desktop to test the Blu-Ray and DVD discs.

Is it possible that the Blu-Ray components on the drive is not working while the DVD/CD bits are ok? Like perhaps it uses 2 lasers?

Thanks

It does use different lasers, but ... are you sure that the player software was working? Could you see the title of the Blu-Ray disc in the drive under Explorer.exe? If so, it wasn't a physical problem with the laser.

Nothing shows up on Windows Explorer, DVDFab and VLC. As if no discs has been inserted.

Do you have BluRay codecs/drivers installed?

Shouldn't this be taken care of DVDFab?

Windows Explorer can't recognize any Blu-ray discs. I had the impression that a Blu-Ray disc would at least show up on Windows Explorer?

My drive uses SATA connectors. I don't think that requires extra drivers. Perhaps I would need a specialized app like PowerDVD when watching the Blu-Ray but surely not when just getting it recognized by the PC?

No, DVDFab is not licensed and is a tool used to rip blu-rays by circumventing the encryption. You need legitimate playback software to watch Blu-Rays.

What model is the blu ray player in the computer?
I think I know where you're going with this line of questioning... like, perhaps, this really isn't even a blu-ray capable drive.

If this was an OEM pre-built system, with a Blu-Ray drive, surely it would have already come with BR playback software pre-installed.

So, either this is an OEM pre-built, WITHOUT a BR drive, or it's a custom-built job. Which may or may not have BR capability.

I think we pretty much solved the issue, OP is expecting something to pop up in explorer and see ready to access files that can be edited, copied, or even played back like DVDs did. That isn't how blueray video works, explorer does not report any of that and it is up to blueray software to access the disc securely, read and translate the the table of contents, and then playback files all of which it knows their exact file location.

Blueray data disc are different of course and will look like any other previous removable disc media.

I don't think that you're correct that Blu-Ray movie discs don't show up at all as any kind of data discs in Explorer.exe like DVDs do. Could have sworn when I was messing around with MakeMKV, the discs showed up. Maybe I'm wrong though.
