Ok, so I just saw this on tv, little giant blueberry plant. Thoughts? I'm trying to incorporate more blueberries into my diet...would this work? Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe in a greenhouse with 100% proper condition, and tons of growing supplements. Even then I have trouble believing blueberries can be produced in a single day. If it said per week, I would maybe believe it. Even then, think it takes more like a month for blueberries to show up and be edible in the wild, then again I've never really too notice how fast they regrow when I pick them off a bush.

If the site didn't have a place to enter credit card information, I would have assumed it was a parody. Banjo music? Really?

Why is the plant never shown in the commercial or on the site?

I did think it was odd that the video of the commercial clearly had a space reserved for a phone number at the end, but no phone number.

Blueberries are, unfortunately, fairly tough to grow. I am sure this specimen is no exception.

While the statement is misleading, it doesn't mean that the fruits are going from flowers to ripe berries in a day. I haven't clicked the link, but its possible that it's an "everbearing" blueberry. The flower production is staggered, so you have everything from flowers to ripe berries at all times.

Edit: lol. Okay, I clicked on the link.

Methinks they simply sell you mail-order blueberry plants. I doubt they're different from the readily available commercial varieties, and I'm sure their claims are quite exaggerated. You might be able to get 4 pints/day for the week that they're producing if you have huge, very healthy plants. But it certainly wouldn't be year-around.

How many blue berries are on each individual plant? I guess between 3 plants, and only picking 1/7th of the berries from each plant every day, their might be a chance to get ripe berries every day. But that has to be a lot of berries on a plant!

Gotta be bullshit. I didn't think berries could grow that fast or that numerous in such a little number of plants.
Of course, obviously genetic engineering of plants is relatively commonplace these days, but without them saying a single word about just how they accomplish such a feat, I cannot believe their claims.

They have a different site, and that one has a little more information.

So, 3 plants, each 6ft tall, 5ft wide... with staggered flowering (relatively natural, no fruit-bearing plant bears all of its fruit at once), that volume does sound a little more likely. They grow in bunches don't they? All over the plant? Pick one or two bunches from each plant, and you have a few pints worth! With large plants, and proper environment, I'd imagine that wouldn't be too much of a stretch. A single plant bearing that much every day? Eventually it's going to be picked clean I imagine, but 3 plants, a little more likely.

I sort of believe it. We grow two cherry tomatoes in the summer. Twice a week we bring in two huge bowls of tomatoes.

It doesn't have to grow a blueberry in a day from scratch. Presumably you'd have many pints on the plant at a time but only 4 ripe per day.

Anyway, still a scam I imagine.

I eat a bunch of blueberries with my cereal every morning. Too bad they're so damn expensive. They're addictive.

The video is utter bs, but the FAQ seems legit:
https://www.blueberrygiant.com/Faq.dtm

Seems like standard blueberry plants.
Have 2 bushes in my yard. They yield only during late spring/early summer here in NY.
There are enough blueberries to pick about a pint every other day, but that's for a couple of weeks, not "all year long".

Ha! I saw this commercial like 4 times yesterday while watching the History Channel (further proof of it catering to the lowest common denominator). I also thought it was a parody. I was waiting for the Energizer Bunny to come through at any moment.

I especially like the "U.S. Plant Expert" who looks like an extra from Revenge of the Nerds III.

It will take several years for the plants to become fully productive, and they'll only produce for a few months. My dad bought a few blueberry bushes to try here in Louisiana, they didn't do much. I think they died within a couple years. You also get birds and squirrels constantly attacking them when they start bearing any fruit. 4 pints/day is probably absolute best case scenario, with fully mature plants, and only for a matter of weeks per year.

By the time they screw you on S&H, you're paying $22 for 3 plants. They tell you in the FAQ that you get bare "cuttings" with no soil. This will be a ripoff, like when you were a kid and ordered the Sea Monkeys.

You should be able to buy 1 year old, potted plants for $8-10 locally -- which is what I'd do if you have any interest in doing this as a hobby.

Maine produces 25% of all lowbush blueberries in North America, making it the largest producer in the world. Maine's 24,291 hectares (60,020 acres) (FAO figures) of blueberry were propagated from native plants that occur naturally in the understorey of its coastal forests. The Maine crop requires about 50,000 beehives for pollination, with most of the hives being trucked in from other states for that purpose. Many towns in Maine lay claim to being the blueberry capital and several festivals are centered around the blueberry. The wild blueberry is the official fruit of Maine and is often as much a symbol of Maine as the lobster. While Maine is the leader of lowbush blueberry production in the United States, Michigan is the leader in highbush production. In 1998, Michigan farms produced 220,000 tonnes (490,000,000 lb) of blueberries, accounting for 32% of the small, round berries eaten in the United States.

Significant acreages of highbush blueberries are cultivated in the southern states of Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

If you want blueberries, go to home depot and get a couple plants. They aren't very expensive. There is absolutely nothing to say this product grows more blueberries than the average bb bush. It also doesn't say how many years it takes for the plant to mature enough to yield a crop worth 4 pints of fruit a day.

If you plant them in your soil you need to be careful - blueberry plants like acidic soil and won't grow and most people's gardens. You might have to buy chemicals to supplement the soil.

You gotta put a net over your BB plants to keep the animals away

Unrelated I am going batsh*t balls out this year with my cucumber plants and cherry tomatoes. Last year was the first year I tried and it worked well. I'm going to plant tons this time. I want to eat five cucumbers each day all summer.

The credit card info gets entered on the first page.

Anyway, I'm sure they're only selling common, bare root blueberry plants. If you want to grow blueberries, pick a couple up at your local nursery during planting time. If I remember correctly, fall planting is best for blueberries. Right now you could probably plant fruit trees.
