My wife raided Wally World today and found a few good markdowns.

Discounted today: Blue's Clues Twin Sheet Set - 1 flat, 1 fitted, 1 pillowcase

Boy Blue UPC 2893218854 $17.47 marked down to $4.25
Girl Pink UPC 2893218852 $17.47 marked down to $4.25

also found girl's McKids clothes $9.47 marked down to $3.00ea. (several styles)

If you've got kids (or just want to make the right impression at the dorm with your new sheets!) it might be worth checking out. YMMV

Did Walmart and Target ALWAYS have markdown and clearance deals like these, or is it just as of late that these deals are happening at those stores? I don't remember seeing these kinds of deals last year at this time.

Target has always had clearance deals. Walmart appears to be more regional. I've heard from people that work at Walmart that it's up to the store mgr/dept mgr what and if they want to mark items down. I have yet to find 1 item on clearance at my Walmart that people say is on clearance at theirs. I've learned not to waste my time with Walmart.

I'd get the sheets along with some sort of Jigglypuff pillow case, but I feel as though I'd be socially exiled from my dorm/college life unless now its 'cool' to like blue's clues (it sure wasn't in high school).

Tennessee. Yes, the WalMart deals are a lot more scattered than Target. You can find good deals but they just don't seem to follow any regular pattern of markdowns (other than the seasonal goods). The local stores here usually have markdowns on kids clothes every 2 months or so, most of the other goods are less common. I check hardware, electronics, & automotive each time I go in there, last summer I picked up a marine stereo (Pioneer dash receiver & waterproof speakers) for $60. But it's not nearly as good as the Target deals Carmann posts (aliendeals usually has a good list, too.)

Sorry this wasn't clear to you, but YMMV in my original post stands for YourMileageMayVary. This means that it may be regional or on a store by store basis only. I'm not a WalMart national manager, so I don't have any control over what stores discount what items. Just reported what we found. Sorry you wasted a trip.
