I use the Jaybird Freedom buds at the gym and while running. This is the recent version of that set:
Jaybird Freedom Sprint
They have a more premium, streamlined version as well, with smaller ear pieces. The
BlueBuds X.
I absolutely love my Freedom's.
The Jaybird sets are all sweatproof, which is a major win in my book for gym and fitness use. The design of the Freedom/Freedom Sprint is also very conducive to cardio activity, as there is only a simple cord behind the neck, and with the right fit options, the buds are comfortable in the ear and stay put - you don't notice the extra mass near the ear.
It seems battery life on both is down from the LG Tone+, but the BlueBuds X does seem to compete strongly with battery life. The Freedom series obviously has less capacity of battery, but unless you participate in marathons or other very long runs, they are serviceable. I typically have an approach to simply charge them after two gym sessions or a few runs, or some combo. Basically, during my heavy activity phases (I haven't been staying active recently - I need to change this!), I'd charge them once every two or three days.
