Bluetooth mouse not connecting?

My laptop (Windows 10 Home) has Bluetooth and the OS says it’s turned on and pared with other devices. My Bluetooth mouse quit working and Device Manager said of Bluetooth -- “This device is working properly”. I bought a new Bluetooth mouse that has a USB stick with it (Logitech Triathlon M720). The salesman said I didn’t have to plug in the USB stick for the mouse to pare with the laptop. But the new mouse won’t work without the USB stick plugged in and the laptop doesn’t recognize the new mouse when I go to settings to look for it. Since my laptop says it’s pared with other devices and Device Manager said Bluetooth is working properly -- yet my laptop doesn’t see the mouse – what’s going on?

Sounds like your N720 may not be properly paired with your laptop. Try this procedure: On your M720 mouse, select one of the channels you want to pair to (1,2 or 3) by pressing the adjacent button multiple times until the channel number is lit. Once lit, hold down the button until the light starts flashing rapidly. Follow the on-screen instructions to turn your device off and then back on.

That's for helping! I followed you until the above.
I held the button down on tthe mouse and it started to blink rapidly but I didn't see any onscreen intructions. So what instructions should I see and how do I see them? Then -- what device am I turning off then back on -- the mouse? And -- do I do this while the USB stick is plugged into the laptop?

Yes, do it with the USB stick plugged in.

Again -- thanks for the reply!
OK -- I left the USB stick plugged in -- and held the button down on the mouse until it started to blink rapidly. Then I turned the mouse off and back on. I didn't see any onscreen instructions and when I unplugged the USB stick, the mouse still didn't work.
So -- I tried the same procedure without the USB stick plugged in -- and the mouse still wouldn't work without the USB stick plugged in.
The issue is that I don't want to have to use the USB stick as I want to have the free USB port on my laptop. That's the reason why I bought a Bluetooth mouse in the first place.
So -- what are the instructions I'm supposed to see when I turn the mouse off then back on?

I can't tell you that - I do not have that mouse. Have you tried Logitech? I would think it would be the pairing instructions. All the symptoms you describe suggest that the mouse is not pairing.

In my experience, those devices all require or work best with their own USB stick/dongle. Pairing is a pain for some devices and I'm sure they are trying to make the product easier to use/sell. The drivers for the mouse are usually coded to work with the stick and released with Windows so it's plug and play. I've never had a USB mouse that didn't require the stick....as far as input devices go, only a USB keyboard that I used with tablets.

I've got a Microsoft wireless mouse...we had a few Logitechs at work...always use the stick despite having laptops with Bluetooth built-in. The sticks and mice don't seem to be interchangeable, fwiw. Check your specific model's manual and see what it says about connecting without the native connector.

Alright, I figured out the issue using the advice the people gave you in this forum. Basically here is what you do... (I tried a bunch of different things, and I believe... although I honestly cannot remember which version actually worked lol).
First, you should probably turn on and off your computer Bluetooth and turn on and off the mouse (just for precautionary measures). Connect the receiver the mouse came with to the laptop and connect to your computer using the receiver. On the SAME channel (that the mouse connects with using the receiver) press and hold the channel switching button until the SAME channel (that you are already on) starts blinking faster. Then go to your Bluetooth settings on your computer and click connect to the mouse. It might take like 10-15 sec, but I am pretty sure this is what worked for me.

*** If this does not work, try doing these steps again, except this time once the channel starts blinking faster, unplug the receiver from the laptop (while the mouse and receiver are connected to each other).
