Well, I bought a Tungsten today and it comes with built in Bluetooth. Wireless LAN is something I know ~squat about.

My PC doesn't have any wireless capability, and my phone doesn't have bluetooth, either.

So here's my question: what would I need to get in order use the BT functions of the PDA? I'm sure I don't want to worry about a phone right now, since I'm locked on contract for another 10 months. But what would make the PC functional for wireless synching and accessing the internet ON THE PDA? It seems that a simple USB bluetooth adapter will allow me to wirelessly synch the PDA and desktop. Would it also allow me to surf the web on the PDA over my desktop broadband connection? Or do I need an access point for that?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have an iPaq and I can use the Internet through the sync. I am not familiar with the Tungsten.
Search the manual and or the Web Site.

BlueTooth is actually a Wireless Replacemnet to the InfraRed Ports.
It is very limited and the gadjets are expensive, thus not used by too many people.

There is a Bluetooth to Wireless Ethernet adapter, I think that D-Link makes it.

If the Tungsten has the capacity to use Wireless Compact Flash are not expensive these days). You might consider buying one and use it as a part of a Wireless Network.

You will need Wireless Cable/DSL Router (they are $20-$39 these days).

BTW as far my experience PDA and Internet do not go togather. The screen is so limited that it makes impossible to functionally surf.

It is good gizmo to retrieve emergency email, butnot too much else.

Thanks, Jack. I appreciate the input. It seems I may have to experiment with this a little. Unfortunately, bluetooth is the only wireless option available to me unless I get a Tungsten W with 802.11b. The rest of the T line uses SecureDigital, and they don't make an SDIO 802.11 card as far as I can find.

Thanks again.

No offense Jack, but I wasn't replying to your post so don't try to correct me. His Tungsten T has bluetooth built in, but no wifi. If he wants wifi he doesn't have to get a Tunsten W like Rev's post said he would.

Wow. I looked for 2 f'ing days and couldn't find any evidence that this thing existed. Googled probably a dozen variations... Just goes to show you... Not sure what, but it does... Thanks, xizor.

It's the Tungsten C that has WiFi. I've got one and I love it!

back on topic...

Rev, you can get a USB bluetooth adapter for your desktop and create your network with ease. Bluetooth networks are a breeze to setup, and once you have them both connected and authenticated, you can sync up no problem.

look at this quick search HERE for some adapters. The adapters typically come with any drivers they might need. Security should still be a concern with bluetooth piconets, so don't skimp on PIN numbers and passphrases.

Thanks, buleyb. After reading a few manuals, particularly for the Epox fob over at newegg, I figured it is probably that easy.

And I wholeheartedly agree with your current pet peeve.
