It is funny that they need to create a 1 series and this 2-series which are probably about the size/weight the old e30 3-series used to be; and the new 3-series looks to be as big as the 5-series was at one point.

Well, the new M4 is roughly the size of my e39 M5 (~3900lbs) but only weighs 3200 lbs which is what the e46 M3 weighed I believe. I've been pretty annoyed by the bloating of BMWs across the board, but this has piqued my curiosity.

I think the 2 series is kinda ugly from the back, which is disappointing now that all the BMWs actually look good again after the 2004-2008 disaster. I also don't understand why 2 series model numbering doesn't match displacement which is silly. I'll be interested to see how an M2 turns out (a real one, not a 235 M sport). If they put all that modern power and tech in actual e30 size and weight that will be a really impressive car.

235i M Sport? You can get the 228i with ZMP but the M235i only comes as an M Performance vehicle. Hopefully we'll see an M2, but for now, the M Performance vehicles have been getting great reviews and they have been warmed over by the M Engineers. This is the first one that's made it to the NA market though.

BMW trademarked M335i, M340i and M350i, so we'll probably see more of them.

M235i with LSD sounds like my next car. Probably a six speed so I can keep the wife out of it. LOL..

We share a car so anything we get has to be automatic. It doesn't appear the DCT is moving over though which is sadface.

Sigh. used to be i could figure out which BMW was which just by glancing at it. Not so much any more.

Really not digging the DTM inspired front bumper treatment. They red is getting even more orangish too. Had a red E46 back in 2000 and don't remember it being that orange. In my little dream world make mine blue and I'll fly over to take delivery.

The front bumper on the m235i looks like its trying too hard. I get the feeling the 228 sport line front will look better

In before the .5 series.

Welfare recipients are a huge luxury car market judging by the number of 128/328 and C250s seen at trailer parks.
probably second hand. these cars lose quite a bit of value in the first couple of years

From what I understand.. sedans will be odd numbers, coupes/convertibles even numbers. This is the new 1-series.

Can't wait to price this out. A 228i with nav/M-sport packages sounds like the ideal one for me.

But that's a coupe so wouldn't it be 2 series and not 1? Aren't they just doing this so they can start all the 3 series at $40k?

Pricing guide just came out here. Looking at around $45k for the 228i or $49k for the m235i with the packages I want: Premium, MSport, Cold Weather, Handling, Lighting and Tech packages. Could strip it down to just MSport/Handling, but the fiance wants all the other creature comforts.

A tad over the $40k budget I'm trying to stay within. Hoping an S3 price guide comes out soon.

The 1 series is a tiny vehicle. BMW is all over the place lately. It looks like the 4 series has an AWD convertible versoin.

I maxed out my 3 series with packages and it was the price of a base M after that. Don't make the same mistake, just upgrade.

There are no creature comforts on a BMW, it's meant for driving. OK I'll give you heated seats are nice, but at the end of the day (after 100K miles) everything will have malfunctioned on you except the handling. =D

No LED lighting option, lame.

Thats pretty much the only thing seperating this from the 4 series.

Friend of mine just got a 428ix and well she only got it since this isn't out yet.

The 2 series is going to be their best car. Nice of them, its relatively cheap

the 1 series is not their best car (i.e. 2 series). the 3 series (i.e. 4 series) has always been their bread and butter. unless you can afford an M, which is the true ultimate driving machine. the rest of us are just playing.

$49K for a 2 series? Yikes... Those packages sure add up quickly.
