The silly part is the F30s are as big as my e39.

Sign of times. I was at the Porsche dealership couple months back and the new cayman was notably bigger than my 911 4s and downright enormous compared to a 993.

1. I paid 50K because I went top of the line. It was supposed to be 55K, but it a decent bargain.

2. I will be parking in Downtown for the day.

3. I have a lot of "fancy" stuff inside. Will someone smash the windows?

Don't be an idiot and leave an iPad or something out on the seats. No one is going to break in to steal a stock BMW stereo.

And jesus christ, it's not like you're going to Tijuana.

$50k is 335i money instead of 328i, more features are standard on a 335i as well too

When I was buying mine i calculated it was probably about $4500 difference you were paying all else being equal.

The 335i though basically only has two or three extra standard features actually. Xenon lights and a moon roof. I think there is some alarm or something too. So if you wanted that stuff anyway its $4500 still , plus if you are not ordering your car 335s are really hard to find (its like under 5% of cars on lots) and possibly makes them harder to haggle on so

So its actually maybe a 40-50hp difference at the wheels and the 328 handles a little better since is got less weight up front by 150 or so lbs. For a lot of people its not the absolute best way to spend an extra $5000 or so after tax

Sadly not currently true. With the redesign of the 328's including a turbo, 8 speed auto, and 240+hp they're so close to the current-gen 335 that if I were in the market for a replacement DD I'd rather take the 328 M-sport over a 335 M-sport (difference of $50k to $60k - so $10,000).

The reality is until the next redesign of the 335, that extra 50 HP isn't really worth 10k. I personally view anyone buying a modern 335 over a 328 to be grossly misinformed.

Disclaimer: My DD is a 2012 335xi with M-sport and the factory chip (I like my warranty and will consider a juice box after it expires) putting it at 338hp/347ft/lb. I'd still take a 328 M-sport over the 335 M-sport today given the choice.

Edit: Okay, full disclosure, I'd take the 328 today - but in six months I'd take the ATS-V in a heartbeat, for less than either BMW option. Looking forward to the ATS-V replacing my DD. Can't do the CTS-V, it's just too big and not a practical DD when dealing with the parking garages at work, and I have a Model S for the weekend/roadtrip warrior.

1. Be in Gross Point for the night, Detroit for the day.
2. Have a cop alarm (rings when cop is nearby)
3. Have built in GPS and automatic start
4. Partially tinted windows
5. Stands out with 75-125K cars in upscale parking garages, how will it stand out in the ghetto?

Your car is nothing, sorry to disappoint. I work in Metro Detroit and was behind a McLaren P1 this week.

You're delusional. I drive an Audi S8 and can't remember last time I stood out anywhere.

Probably cause he blew his fortunes on a depreciating asset as it'll be worth less than 50% of original price in 4 years.

Heh my brother bought a 335i 6mt sport last year for ~17K. That's 70% depreciation in 6-7 years.

Eh I don't think buying nice stuff is so bad. Every car depreciates and you can't take it with you. Hell you'd lose much more % wise on say a Cadillac .... At least BMWs have good residuals.

Personally ,I've bought 4 luxury cars since I graduated college 11 years ago (same college you went too it looks like). I know its money I could still have and some or my friends from school say the same thing. I also have managed to make far more money than most of my friends being far more driven partly because hey nice cars need money to be bought.

I'm going to be optimistic and hope the OP worked hard to get his bimmer. If luxury cars are part of what keep you motivated then do it OP.
