Here Is What I Own:

Risk
Acquire
Settlers of Catan (Original, Seafarers, Cities and Knights, Merchants and Barbarians)
Power Grid
Munchkin (Original and all decks for original version)

On My To Buy List:

Quarriors
Lords of Waterdeep
Risk 2210 A.D.
Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries
Cosmic Encounter
7 Wonders
Puerto Rico

I really enjoy Acquire and Settlers the most of the games I currently have. I think the games on my "To Buy" list should fit the type I would enjoy. I like more interactive games, but typically not ones that will take more than 3 hrs per game. I know Agricola is well rated and I've never played it, but it just sounds kind of boring, maybe it's just a bad impression though.

Anybody have any other suggestions or opinions on the "To Buy" games?

What's a board game? Is that like an app?

sort of. back in the days before computers, developers had to make their app's with physical objects, like cardboard, paper and plastic. so the app's were more like real life objects instead of the way an app is supposed to be, on a screen

it was really barbaric. you had to keep track of all your money yourself and calculate scores yourself, you even had to generate your own random numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111 what a pain that was

Maybe if they make an iPad 4 with 48" Retina Screen. Otherwise I'll stick with real boards, they work even when the battery runs out.

I own about 60 board games I think.

Agricola is a good game, even though it does sound kind of boring (farming, wtf?).

Dominion is another great game that is quick to play and a lot of fun.

Battlestar Galactica is an awesome game. Not because of the mechanics, but because of the interaction and trying to figure out who is the "cylon". Basically everyone is dealt a card at the beginning of the game. It might say "you are a cylon" or it might say "you are not the cylon". There are always more humans than cylons, but the cylon player always tries to make everything fail while throwing the blame on someone else. It's great when, as the cylon player, you mess up the humans plans and then get all the humans to throw another human in the brig because you convince them he or she did it

Twilight Struggle is a cold war wargame. However, it is heavily abstracted so you aren't manuvering units around a map with grids. One of my favorites.

Make sure you check out www.boardgamegeek.com

I absolutely love Dominion. I have the base game and the Prosperity expansion. Imagine a customizable card game like Magic, but instead of buying and building your deck beforehand, you construct your deck as you play the game. Every game is different because you only use 10 different cards at a time, but there are hundreds of cards to choose from (24 in the base set, but numerous expansions).

The other ones I have are Catan and Ticket to Ride. I've gotten a bit burned out on Catan lately but it's still fun. My brother has 7 Wonders and I love it.

Alhambra is a cool one too, fairly simple. Kind of similar to Ticket to Ride actually.

Agricola takes a while to play, nothing like Titan or Twilight Imperium though.

I have been enjoying Last Will a lot, it is Brewster's Millions in board game form.

If you like Twilight Struggle, give 1960: The Making of a President, and Founding Fathers a shot.

I'm a board game geek. Going to gen-con this year, as I have many years in the past.

I have, sitting in front of me:
Robo Rally
Clue
Puerto Rico
some 40 war hampsters
Dipomacy Imperial
the "big box" of carcassonne
Dominion (friend has every one of them)
risk "god storm"

and my favorite: Battle Star Galactica.

I have the base game and the two expansions. Still haven't played the Ionian nebula, need to find a regular gaming group. I spend all day, every day, doing school stuff; with 10 min breaks every hour to neff, drink, eat etc.

dude, get citadels, it is awesome for 4 to 7 people. about 1.5 hours per play, lots of strategy and backstabbing and some luck, plus pretty easy to learn.

I bought Munchkin: Impossible and Monty Python Fluxx with the idea that I would play it with my friend and maybe his wife. He had no interest in it. I have no one else to play it with and kind of bummed about it.

I have Dominion and Dom: Intrigue. tons of fun.

I recently played the newest one...I forget what it's called. great game.

I played Werewolf recently--this sounds like one version of tons and tons of identical games--Battlestar Galactica was recently mentioned. I also played one where you have corporation vs rebellion/spies. These games are good in groups, especially because they work well with any type of group (even non-nerds).

Another thing about Dominion, if you want to get your fix but can't find anyone to play with, you can play online. Also a great way to test strategies and try out new cards (they have all the cards from every expansion). It's at dominion.isotropic.org.

While BSG has a secret teams element it is much more complex (thus much easier) than the simple-mechanics you find in are you a where-wolf.

Quarriors is not great. In theory it seems good, because it combines deck-building with dice, but in practice the decisions are almost never difficult. Also, the numbers are printed so small on the dice that I can't play it with people in my game group who have less than perfect eyesight.

Puerto Rico is alright, but IMO it's showing its age like Settlers of Catan. Board games are constantly evolving as games combine and build on concepts from other games, and Puerto Rico didn't do anything for me after all of the other games I've played.

I guess that's why they are constantly releasing expansions... well, partly to shake up the game a bit, and mostly because they need money. But expansions are still a great way to change a game around, fix possible balance issues in the base game, or try new things.

Problem is if you get too many expansions, you eventually run into issues of convenience. Each new expansion is another big box to store, another set of pieces and/or cards you have to keep track of and separate properly, and they often add significantly to the complexity and setup time of the game. I got the Seafarers expansion for Settlers of Catan and while it was fun, it's also quite fatiguing to play even just one game of it.

I know that with Dominion, though, the creator of the game has thoroughly play-tested all the cards. He planned out many of the cards that are now available in expansions well before their release, and he is an active member of the board gaming community. So NOW the real issue is that, since I've played so many games online and learned so many new strategies, it's hard for me to play against my real life friends because I'm aware of so much more.

So I'd say, outside of board game meetups or playing online, it might be better to move towards the simpler games like Ticket To Ride or Alhambra.

Oh yeah, they've been whoring Catan out since it became popular. Not just with the expansions but with standalone games, and now they're going the Monopoly route and making a rethemed version that's essentially the same as the original (Star Trek Catan).

I've made a point of having games in my collection for both groups. I have a game group that I play with regularly, and we play gamers' games. For my non-gamer friends I have some party games and simpler games like Ticket to Ride.

I do have to wonder what Donald X was thinking with the Alchemy expansion for Dominion. Other than that I have all of the expansions and really enjoy the variety of cards.
