I don't completely agree. Jimmy was weak, and allowed his wishes to be overridden by others. That's not an excuse, but /some/ latitude should be given. He needed to grow up more for the position he was in.

I don't agree either. Jimmy got what Eli deserved. He also took a huge step towards helping Nucky out of the jam, which he didn't even really start. He helped it along, but the wheels of justice were already turning against him.

If you're going to play with the big boys, either come to play hard...or go sit on the porch.
You don't get involved with mobsters, participate in a plan to kill the person who helped raise you, and expect latitude. You expect to get killed.

Jimmy being axed wasnt that huge of a surprise. He was pretty much the only expendable character as he was the only fabricated character.

It really did feel like a series finale. They could end it there and it would be pretty tied up (as much as it ever could be). Following Capone more will be sort of odd, as he was more rooted in Chicago... not the AC. Though I'm sure he was busy there as well.

All in all a great show.

Killing off Jimmy was probably the only way to solidify the fact that Nucky is the main character of the show. I haven't watched it yet, but when I first heard about it, I was pretty peeved because I had a disdain for Nucky for some reason.

I dunno. I think Capone's story will have to come up a little bigger than it is + they have to show what will happen now that S
chroeder gave away the land to the church.

+ I really think Jimmy's mother will totally freak out at Jimmy's death.

Jimmy's mom will freak out but won't be able to do shit about it. I guess she is the next of kin after Jimmy's son anyway.

I was kind of surprised Nuck forgave his brother over Jimmy. Usually Nuck can read people pretty well, so when he believed his brother that he had nothing to do with it I was kind of surprised. I remember an earlier ep when Jimmy was talking with his cabal on taking over and it was Eli who straight out said.. Just kill him. (referring to Nuck). I don't know if Nuck knew that, or if he did and focused his anger on those who actually carried the idea out (Jimmy).

He is going to go to jail for a year, so I guess that is punishment enough in Nuck's eyes.

Eli taking the plea deal and going to jail for 2 years pretty much closes the federal election tampering investigation. This makes Eli more valuable to Nucky than Jimmy, who is more of a liability.

Never mind. Reading fail.

I don't hold much hope for Eli's chances of living a long life. I don't think Nucky is going to "forgive and forget."

IMHO:

Jimmy was disloyal. This is ultimately why he was killed. Nuck stood in front of him and said "I'm going to ruin you all". He has always done what he says. He even said so right before that line IIRC.

Eli was spared for two reasons: 1. He is Nuck's brother. Nuck himself said "blood is thicker than water". 2. Now that Nuck has beaten the federal rap and re-established his position as ruler of AC, and especially with the exhibition of his control over Eli vis-a-vis his plea deal and the taking care of Eli's family in the interim, he thinks he has complete control over Eli.

I'm not convinced he believed Eli over Jimmy regarding the hit. It seems he had already made his decisions when he went to talk thing over with Eli on the porch. He seemed like he felt Eli was lying anyway.

I quite like the Nucky character. He is starting to seem much more ruthless than he was in the first season. Previously, he seemed more like a businessman only, leaving gruesome details to others. However, killing Jimmy himself and then being able to lie about it so seemingly convincingly the next morning makes me think he is entirely cold-blooded and we have been fooled almost as much as Margaret has.

He's a very cold-blooded sumbitch...I saw him kill several people when he worked for his uncle, Tony Soprano.

I can't believe they killed off the number two character and Nucky's primary rival.

So who in the hell is going to be Nucky's primary enemy come next season?

The other people who lined up with Jimmy to take over are still around. I'm sure they have cash and an interest in things. You also still have Capone who will probably get more powerful. I feel like Rothstein is eventually going to end up dead since Capone and Lucky are such hotheads (Lucky eventually takes over NYC as far as history goes).

I'm curious to see how the thing with the land will work out. I still can't decide whether or not the priest is corrupt. I know he is "friends" with Nucky (helping him when the boy got in trouble at school), and he said that Margaret's donation went to build some building? I wonder if that actually happened. He seems like one who would do what Nucky asks even if it was un-priest like. It's funny how she was ready to marry him when she saw him playing with her daughter, but switched real quick when she realized the Nuck killed Jimmy.

And there is still Van Alden.. damn this show is so good.

They actually form a group in real life called The Combined or The Big Seven. Rothstein dies in 1928 supposedly over a fixed game of cards.

Margaret better watch over her shoulders, she might come down with an unexpected illness.

I'm tired of Margaret, I don't know why she has her own stuff - rather boring, and a bit annoying.

I fucking love it. It's perfect seeing all the places I've seen in NYC, and even better, there was one scene that took place in my friends father's club. We didn't even know what the hell until we saw the club on TV. We were all like WTF!

Love that show as well.

What club does your friends pop own? I'm always out and about in NYC and hit up some of the spots mentioned in How To Make It.
