ok run away Nostradamus. I think I will have myself some copper river salmon tonight (if I can find it)

As you probably already know Copper River Salmon is from Alaska. The high oil content gives the flesh its amazing color and taste.

Best time of the year to buy some usually starts in the beginning of May, but good luck finding some this late in the season.

I'm still working on the last of my King Salmon stock from the last time I went fishing.

And I think we are actually on the same page regarding the produce issue, just coming at it from different angles.

I haven't run the numbers exactly, but the imperial valley alone produces 80% of the vegetables in the winter for the WHOLE FUCKING COUNTRY. They probably throw away more than your precious over producing Washington valley. We're not talking about a pittance here, and that's ignoring the central valley, which dwarfs the imperial valley. Also, the way this El Nino is shaping up, we'll put a serious dent in the drought this year. We could probably come close to wiping it out if we had better methods for retaining all the rain fall.

And why am I paying higher prices for water to subsidize cheap vegetables for the entire country. I smell a class action lawsuit brewing. Shut it down. I'll pay $40 for a small thing of asparagus. Let the poors eat mcdonalds.

It has been proposed to salt rain clouds so they rain. We get some sizable clouds on occasion that fly over. It would be nice to make it rain on us. We also have desalinization plants coming online and I really wish we could get more people onboard with toilet to tap. It just makes sense. You filter the toilet water and then use it to charge the water table.

Orange County has been do that for years. Also, it creates a barrier to salt intrusion into the acquifer.

You can't increase your population and not increase your watershed, with all the technolgy we have you would think that there are solutions for the problems.

California Democrats / Environmentalists have long attacked the notion of building more reservoirs because that might affect / change the environment. So we're going to doubled our population and add zero water storage.

What could possibly go wrong?!

But Obama has nothing to do with it, and Boehner is just trying to Trump himself.

really, you've never heard about an aqueduct from washington to california? Maybe the ca government has finally realized this won't happen and has quit banking on it.

And you sure took that comment personally, i guess it struck a little to close to home lol. Are you honestly surprised in regards to the water shortages and rationing? The aqueduct system had to be built when the population was a mere fraction of today's, it was only a matter of time and will only get worse.

I suggest getting the hell out of dodge before it becomes impossible to do so. Especially if you're a properly owner.

Except for the part where I don't support blowing up brown skin people in foreign countries. I do have a few conservative qualities but republicans aren't conservatives.

Heh. Such lame partisanship. First, imagine that there's water to be stored. Then blame tree hugger Obama for not storing it.

Everybody wants redistribution of wealth, particularly the people at the tippy top.

They want it all. They seem to be getting it, too.

Meh. Lawns & swimming pools are what % of CA GDP?

I see xeriscaping in your future. At least you won't have to mow it.

People are laying down fake grass all over the place. Whats funny is the landscaping industry is .83% of gdp. So almost half as much as ag. AG will get destroyed if it begins to touch anything that is high gdp.

 This is one of those cultural shifts that I have long-hoped would happen, but it's still very difficult.

Since much of the voting public seems vulnerable to populist arguments, maybe we should reinforce the origin of "Lawn Culture" in the US: large, green laws were symbols of envy that reflected, specifically, the French Monarchy and the types of gardens that surrounded their lavish palaces.

Redstaters especially seem to hate the French for some reason, none of us really like Kings....so maybe we should remind the lawn-holders that they are merely francophiles suffering from King envy?

I saw a CBD web site the other day raising funds to oppose a liberal plan to build pipes that conservatives would be forced to pee in to send water to California. I don't see why those who fear the plan didn't see we could also grind up the bodies by death panel and pump them along too. I'm looking forward to a green revolution with lettuce the size of cars.

How many sq. miles of solar panels will we need to desalinate enough water to replace what's missing? We could also build condensation plants and maybe small ones at the source of mountain streams.

Maybe the science chairmen of the Republican senate could recommend we use nuclear weapons to destroy a part of the sun to cool things down a bit.

Still boggles my mind that yall are stepping on the average joe so much for water conservation (who use relatively little of the water) and not on the farmers (who use the VAST majority of the water) at all beyond lip service and as you say, they are only 2% of GDP.

I'd be pretty pissed the hell off if the .gov assholes started telling me I couldn't flush my toilets or how long my showers when 80% of the water is being used by other assholes that only make up 2% of the economy. Hell I'd be pissed off at the sheer stupidity of my politicians for trying to solve a water crisis by going after the group that uses the least. Like blood from a turnip...

Such a well stated point, you've convinced me that Obama is behind drought related water problems in California.

I'm impressed with the lack of partisanship and thorough objectivity supported by the facts you've brought to the discussion.

Well we don't have snow pack anymore in the Sierras. This was our major source of water through the summer. The non human global warming is finally having a real effect. So no we dont have mountain streams that are at any good numbers anymore.

Well I guess we are just going to have to take the water in Washington state like we are doing to California farmers. They thought they had water rights. Shit, Washington state is just northern northern California. Better start reading Dune.
