If I remember correctly, the bill was around 4-5x higher than normal (around $450.00)

Space heaters sucks lots of electricity. I know when last winter I decided on putting space heaters in individual bedrooms at night only to save on the central natural gas bill heat. Ended up that month my electric bill jumped by almost $200 dollars while my gas bill dropped by like $50. Needless to say, I don't use those space heaters anymore.

On the topic of space heaters...

You can calculate how much they cost to use. Since they draw a fixed amout of power (1500 watts normall). 1 hour of use = 1.5 Kw/h. Your bill should tell you the price of a kilowatt/hr. I think that's how it works.

i wired up a new thermostat back in college, somehow got the wires crossed and it ran the heat the same time as the A/C, obviously this didnt work so it ran constantly.

A month later i get a power bill for $450
