Holy crap... it's actually INSIDE the light bulb. Thought it was going to be like around.

was hoping the bulb would shatter. came away disappointed

that's a bigass lightbulb though.

I thought I was the only one that watched this guy's videos. If you want a laugh browse his channel, he tried vacuuming fire up with a busted Dyson

LOL yeah the stuff he does is hilarious. He has hilarious comments too, and the accent just makes it even better.

One time he's slowly increasing the voltage to something. He got up to like 60v (I may be wrong on number, can't recall) which was way past the rating of whatever he was doing. Then he's like "We don't do 60 volts on this channel" and keeps increasing it.

That was basically me as a kid, except I did not really have access to anything he has. Probably a good thing. "How many 9 volt batteries can this 3 volt motor take?" A lot, apparently.

I expected it to explode, but it seems the heat and pressure maxed out fairly soon after it started boiling, and the hole was obviously large enough to handle it the pressure.

Guy sounds hilarious but man is he probably upping his exposure to toxins from smoke and electronics.

They used to heat up pieces of steel that were 2.5" X 8" from ambient to 2250F in about 1 minute using induction heat. At that temp the steel is glowing yellow almost to the point of being white.

That isn't just steam shooting out the top. That would be exhaling hydrogen and oxygen - good thing he didn't bring a match to it.

I would be careful replicating this experiment. If that is electric current passing through the water, it may go through an electrolysis reaction. This produces O2 and H2. H2, unconstrained will blow up an air balloon.

The resistance of cold (cold is basically pre-incandescent) wolfram is very low. The current flowing through the water would be feeble especially if it were de-ionized water.

Even if the HO ratio was optimal for combustion/explosion there isn't a suitable source of ignition present.

The experimenter is experienced and despite the hazards present with these experiments, is well aware to keep the input power low enough to not be of concern.

Had this experiment been conducted outdoors with heavy blast windows surrounding it, I'm sure the goosing of power on the lamp's socket would have been appropriate to turn the bulb into a bomb!

10kW (filament) lamps are most commonly used in long range projection systems but are quickly being surpassed by more efficient replacements.

Lighthouses surprisingly use 1kW lamps due to the incredible power of their first order Fresnel lens.

What on earth do use use a 10,000 watt light bulb for?
One such use was media projection.
I'm guessing this industry is being overtaken by LED

For Bryan Adam’s 1999-2001 worldwide tour, the musician’s lighting designer envisioned covering the stage with abstract, kinetic imagery during each performance. Typically, this type of presentation requires cumbersome projection equipment that would take up at least 8x8' of space. However, the band didn’t have the luxury of that amount of room.
They hired BL&S, who designed a system utilizing a 10,000 watt light source rotated so that it pointed straight up, using a mirror to reflect the image back onto the stage.

You guys thinking that the current will go through the water in that scenario really need to brush up on your understanding a bit.

edit: Darn, beaten. (and more accurately since the above post points out "feeble" as opposed to none as I implied). That's what happens when you open a thread and spend half an hour watching videos and then don't refresh before replying.

I know the rough melting point of steel and the different colors that indicate what temperature it is when a material is glowing off the top of my head... but only in metric.

Yeah I don't imagine much current is going through the water. Maybe near the filament but the water's resistance is still magnitudes higher than the filament.

At the voltage he was sending there if the filament broke, there would not be too much action. This was mostly heat induced more than anything.

What's really fun is when you send 120v into very nearby electrodes in water. They actually make water boiling sticks in China based on this principle.

I remember seeing a light house lens in person, it was a museum display and they had a small bulb in there as display, maybe 40w at most but if you looked at the lens right it was pretty bright.

Wonder how much a glass kit like that goes for. That's pretty much optical grade glass I would imagine.
