BOINC Problems

Anyone else having communications problems?

Here's the error message I get:

12/21/2005 4:37:40 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed with a return value of -106

This very likely was due to the normal Wednesday-outage for backup-purposes.

I'm getting 'can't get work' ,something like that.
Yet a few hours ago I had no problems

Is Berkely not handing WUs out atm?

I get that error... or get an error -103, too.

If they aren't handing out WU's, wouldn't they tell us?



I gotta say, I've had a lot of trouble trying to get this running like the Classic did. I know, I know.... Lot's of people have been complaining in the Seti forums, but it certainly hasn't been as easy to run. But I haven't given up yet.

I just wish there was some sort of tech support to get help from.

We'll see what happens....

A few hours or so after my last post it managed to get some WUs
I should have some stats in S@H2 now.

lol ,I see I'm last in the team atm (active members)
Btw I forgot how much S@H2 stats sucked ,as in you can only hit 'next 20' ,bleh ,add 450 to the url to see the bottom ranks of the team.

Not sure on the reason, but as long as you don't get an error-message it's something server-side and nothing you can do with it...

Normally after waiting 10 minutes and client asks again, you should get work, but for periods since Tuesday there's been ocassionally hours before you'll get anything...

It atleast looks like they tweaked something so things has improved again...

Yea that's the one ,I think it took 4 attempts before it got any WUs.
Its ok now AFAIK

One thing I do like about the BOINC stats is the list of PCs under your name , a little like SETIQ on that side.

I haven't been able to get any work units for 4 days. Keeps giving me an error saying I need to alocate more disc space but I can't find any way to do change the amount of space allocated to Rosetta

Something else I've noticed. Here is what Seti (from the old web site, http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu ) shows as completed credits (WU's) for me.

I still can't get connected to download any new work. I keep getting the "Error code 500".
I'm still waiting to hear from someone on their end to help me get connected. Rosetta works fine, so it's frustrating to not be able to get back to SETI again.

Berkley said they were going to update the classic stats shown when they've purged cheaters etc.

No problems getting S@H2 WUs here ,switched my mum over to S@H2 yesterday & got some WUs,(& joined her new account to TA)

What part of it?

If it's to update the stats, yes, this will be done, but can take some weeks.
As for cheaters, these has also been mentioned resently, but if they'll be purged depends how you're interpreting things...

After the last result is received, the stats for this project will be frozen but will continue to be available on the web. It may take several weeks to clean everything up and syncronize the classic stats with the current SETI@home project.

No.. I was dealing with those and gave up because (1) each "cheat check" on a user would clobber the science database (scanning for redundancy) and take a long time, (2) I had higher priority things to work on. Plus, as time wore on Classic work became more and more redundant and it became more difficult to differentiate between cheaters and legitimate users who just happened to send in excessively redundant work.

When discussing "what we'd do differently?" in SETI@home Classic after we shut it down, high on the list was: overly redundant work. Back then we had a fear of pissing off users with lack of work to crunch, but really it ended up creating more headaches than curing them.

So the answer is no and we can't because all the work was redundant the last year or so anyway so everyone who crunched seti for at least the last 6 months was just wasting their time and power anyway.

No that isn't completely right ,its only been about the last 2mths or so where it was only being done for that stats with no science being done,prior to that there was a high level of redundancy where each WU was being crunched 6-7 times but some usefull work was being done,so it wasn't completely pointless ,not to mention giving us (TaBoo) the chance to get various TA'ers to 10k etc

I should have underlined when they've purged cheaters to make my query clear.

I am going to be very, very disappointed if they don't attempt to purge the Classic Stats of all the "cheaters".

Not really an error message, but I checked on my rig this morning and found that my BOINC Manager project list was totally blank, no projects running. I exited and restarted it and everything was back to normal i.e. R@H appeared again. Strange. I wonder if it's a problem with BOINC Manager or something project-specific.

This behavior is with the BOINC-manager. It does not affect the crunching. A restart of the BOINC-manager usually resolves the problem. Reason for this behavior is unknown to me (because I do not understand enough "computerese-speak"), but I have read about it in the BOINC-dev-mailing lists.
