I've been using using BOINC Synergy's site to look for new members joining the projects. i just look at the Total Members & the # in XML & look for a change from the previous day.
Today, SETI's numbers were the same as yesterday but i just happened to notice that we lost a member near the top in the ranks. So looking thru each page i see we gained a new member.
Just dumb luck i noticed this.

I don't want to have to scroll thu every page of every project to look for new members. Any ideas?

FreeDC site has a new members page but it doesn't work for all projects.
SETI's hasn't updated in months

Not sure if it is any better, but have you looked around the BOINCstats pages?

I've had the same problem with the Rosetta Stats. Nobody left, but somebody changed his nickname.I was lukc y because he said it ahead of time so I knew what was gogin on. The prob was, that it showed a new member on Free-DC but one in the R@H TeAm site. I head to manually scan through all 80 members to find who had changed. It's the only way I was able to do it.

I can only think how hard that must be for more than one project as you do it. I'm not sure, but maybe you can ask Soni. He once wrote a script for Johan to pull the DPAD stats, maybe he can do something similar for you and the BOINC stats/members list.

I don't know... i guess i'll just deal with it as best i can. Maybe when/if GeoffS does BOINC stats he might have a way of doing it easier.
I don't see anywhere on the BOINCStats where they show a team roster type page. I'm i missing something?

Anyone remember who does the FreeDC stats page? I don't remember his name
I see they have a bug/feature report. maybe i'll try that & see if they can get the new members page to update.

Thanks. Looks promising but some names show as new on quite different dates than Synergy. Most look good though.

If you have any suggestions about it, perhaps we can get Bok to come over for a thread about his new stats. He seems really good about it.

As another side note, I thought the existing Free-DC stats listed new comers.

The exsisting Free-DC site does show new members but that page isn't updating for all projects. Compare using the link you just gave my with the exsisting page:

Getting the exsisting pages to update would be my only suggestion. Know how to get ahold of him. Maybe he doesn't even know they aren't updating? I didn't look at other teams... could just be a TeAm problem he doesn't know about.

Some teams on the Free-DC site aren't showing individual stats but the new members page are updated as of today while the TeAm's stats page shows individual stats correctly but the new members page isn't updating.

I'm looking at SETI stats mostly but there's weirdness all over.

SetiTEAM is what I and HB and I think OD all used to keep up with new members in the old Seti@Home project (seems strange saying that). You could run it anytime you wanted. That is how sometimes a new member would only be minutes old and he would see a welcome thread in our AT Forum.

Sure wish we had something like that for all the other projects.

Soni created his own script that did a similar thing. He would automagically update his stats once a day. That would probably be good enough if he could be pursuaded to do a little programming for us.

Hi guys,

trying to work out what the problems are you are reporting..

proj=b_seti is obsolete, I switched it off when I started doing all teams for boinc seti, which is what proj=sah is. The fact that you can still see it is just because I haven't deleted the database.. I'll add a quick banner..

As for team movement and name changes in particular, it's very difficult to track to be honest in most projects. However in some, like boinc it's actually pretty easy and is something I should be doing. As their 'name' actually doesn't change just their nickname. I think I can code something in.

One thing to remember is that I have a single script which runs every project, so it's fairly generic. I just call drivers for each differing project to do the parsing itself. That being said, I've been trying recently to add some extra pieces in on a per project basis. So I'm happy to take on board any suggestions.

The boinc seti ones are the most difficult as they take the longest to run - over one hour in total. The stats server is a P4 3.2 in a datacenter in Dallas which does all of the stats runs as well as host the webpages, so it can get a little overloaded. I've been toying with running some of the bigger ones on a machine at home and producing some xml which already has project ranks, teamranks already done, so that that server has less to do. Wouldn't be that hard to implement/automate.

Looking at them now, they do seem messed up. I think what is happening is that they are overrunning an hour and a new run starts without checking the old one which screws it up. I've just implemented some checking for that (it also will show on the devel site that stats are updating) but it doesn't kill the script yet. I'll put that in maybe monday..

Thanks for stopping by Bok. I think the main issue was tracking new members to a BOINC team. It is not an issue with your stats, just for anyone trying to track it. Spacehead was using Boinc Synergy stats to determine who was new, but did not want to scroll through so many pages for our team. (it is easy when the user has no credit, thus they are on the last page. but when the user comes in with credit, you would have to check all pages.) When I mentioned your page, and the devel page, Spacehead mentioned the stats not being updated. Pretty simple I guess...

As far as suggestions, the one dealing with this issue would be some sort of new user tracking, and team switching list. I see you already have that on the devel stats, so perhaps it is already covered. Perhaps Spacehead can chime in here and give his opinion. THanks again.

The stats have always tracked new users and user movement, it just appears that the boinc seti ones are a bit screwy. I'm going to run them on my home machine in debug mode and see what is going on....I've switched them out of cron for now and will run manually once per day until I get them fixed...

If I do get them fixed up I'd be happy to write a quick php script which produced the data needed for these posts if you like..?
