EDIT: Formerly "quick F@H question", this is now my official stupid question thread.

In looking at petrusbroder's 4M milestone, I noticed I have stats on several different "accounts", all with the same name. I have created a new user name now (Chocobo Navy), and I want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen to this account. Is there anything in particular I can do to make sure all the stats on all projects crunched in the future get accounted for (mainly in Combined BOINC stats)?

It's an ID that the Folding Project will assign to you and you enter when you install your client (it only comes into play on a couple of the newer beta clients.)

It really doesn't mean much except that they are pretending it is some kind of secruity so you will know if someone else crunches under your name (like anyone would care about that)

I think it was really the beginnings of an attempt to more accurately identify users for sooper dooper top secret double-naught reasons

You can read more about the "passkey" here

edit:

I just realized you are asking for a different ID than the passkey. The userID is generated by the installation and seems to be unique to each PC.

Hmmm, I recognize the problem.

Make sure that you use the same e-mail address in all the accounts you want to have under one name, i.e. when making accounts with "Chocobo Navy" in different BOINC-projects, use the same e-mail.

BTW: if you want to change the name of your old accounts that works out too: first change the name of the account (and keep the e-mail address as it is), then after a few days, then change the e-maily. If you have done all correct, the all the old and the new accounts-stats should merge into the new ...

BOINC isn't Folding@Home, it's not neccessary in BOINC to make new accounts, since you can just edit the info on the various projects accounts in case they're different, and get them all "in sync" again. The steps are:

1; Make sure all accounts has the same email-address. Edit if neccessary. It should be case-insensitive, except possibly WCG since doesn't run "standard" BOINC-setup.
2; In theory shouldn't matter as long as email the same, but atleast BoincStats doesn't correctly handle accounts with different user-name. So, if different names, just edit.

So the "hard" part:
3; To get your cross-project-id "in sync", there must be a "connection" between all the projects.
The "easiest" method is to just attach atleast one computer to all projects you're running, and in case some projects is set to "no new work" you must possibly manually hit "update" to connect scheduling-server, to get all "in sync".
But, can also have only one or a couple project on each computer, and various projects on different computers. If you're running PS3GRID you must in any case split-up...

It can take days to get all projects "in sync", and in case one/more projects is down or isn't updating stats, you can't get all "in sync".

The most likely case for multiple accounts showing-up, even uses a single email on everyone, is either:
Not all projects attached, or you haven't made a Scheduler-request to them resently.
or
There aren't a "connection" between all projects so it's impossible to get all "in sync".

Example, if computer-1 is attached to project A, B, C.
computer-2 is attached to project D, E, F
computer-3 is attached to project G, H, I.
computer-4 is attached to project J.

You'll have no possible way for cross-project-id to get in sync, and you'll likely have 4 different accounts.

If you instead has computer-1 attached to project A, B, C.
computer-2 to C, D, E, F.
computer-3 to B, G, H, I.
computer-4 to H, J.

In this scenario, all projects has a way for cross-project-id to propagate across all projects, and as long as all projects connects to Scheduling-server daily until all is "in sync", would guess within a week you'll have only one account showing-up on the various stats-sites...

Well, as long as same email-address and user-name that is.

OK, I've finally had it with boinc stats. Can someone give me a step by step method to get all of my projects working under 1 ID#? I currently have 5 different cross project IDs. I can not for the life of me figure out how to get them to combine!

When you attach/join a new project, you need to use exactly the same email address (I'm not sure if it's case sensitive, but I think it is) and password on every project in order for the cross-project ID to match up. You need to be using the same ID on every project or the boincstats site won't know that the stats belong to the same person.

Yes, if they are all changed to same address. I did that recently. In fact, in my case I forgot the login info for 2-3 projects. So now the new email address projects have a new CPID and the old dont. Luckily the ones I didnt change only equal 3k credit or so.

The email-address is converted to lower-case before added to BOINC-db, so this shouldn't be a problem, except if a project is running some really really old code (pre-seti-launc). Also, it's possible WCG has a problem, since uses non-standard-code, so use lower-case for WCG...

Whatever password you're using doesn't matter, except if you're using Account Manager, but of course it's easier to remember a single password for 50 projects and not a different password for each project.

As for user-name, in theory it shouldn't matter, but BoincStats doesn't correctly handle multiple user-names for same cross-project-ID...
