In looking at
petrusbroder's 4M milestone, I noticed I have stats on several different "accounts", all with the same name. I have created a new user name now (Chocobo Navy), and I want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen to this account. Is there anything in particular I can do to make sure all the stats on all projects crunched in the future get accounted for (mainly in Combined BOINC stats)?
BOINC isn't Folding@Home, it's not neccessary in BOINC to make new accounts, since you can just edit the info on the various projects accounts in case they're different, and get them all "in sync" again. The steps are:
1; Make sure all accounts has the same email-address. Edit if neccessary. It should be case-insensitive, except possibly WCG since doesn't run "standard" BOINC-setup.
2; In theory shouldn't matter as long as email the same, but atleast BoincStats doesn't correctly handle accounts with different user-name. So, if different names, just edit.
So the "hard" part:
3; To get your cross-project-id "in sync", there must be a "connection" between all the projects.
The "easiest" method is to just attach atleast one computer to all projects you're running, and in case some projects is set to "no new work" you must possibly manually hit "update" to connect scheduling-server, to get all "in sync".
But, can also have only one or a couple project on each computer, and various projects on different computers. If you're running PS3GRID you must in any case split-up...
It can take days to get all projects "in sync", and in case one/more projects is down or isn't updating stats, you can't get all "in sync".
The most likely case for multiple accounts showing-up, even uses a single email on everyone, is either:
Not all projects attached, or you haven't made a Scheduler-request to them resently.
or
There aren't a "connection" between all projects so it's impossible to get all "in sync".
Example, if computer-1 is attached to project A, B, C.
computer-2 is attached to project D, E, F
computer-3 is attached to project G, H, I.
computer-4 is attached to project J.
You'll have no possible way for cross-project-id to get in sync, and you'll likely have 4 different accounts.
If you instead has computer-1 attached to project A, B, C.
computer-2 to C, D, E, F.
computer-3 to B, G, H, I.
computer-4 to H, J.
In this scenario, all projects has a way for cross-project-id to propagate across all projects, and as long as all projects connects to Scheduling-server daily until all is "in sync", would guess within a week you'll have only one account showing-up on the various stats-sites...
Well, as long as same email-address and user-name that is.
