BOINC: We need a script-writer for some stats!

At this time and into the foreseeable future we do not have the capability to recognize when we get a NEW member on "any" of our BOINC projects. In Seti-Classic we had a little program by the name of "Seti-Team" that took care of this need but no such program exists for the BOINC projects.

We must have someone with the skills and time to develop a such a program.

I am in the process of contacting the author of "Seti-Team" who may provide the "script" for further modification that will enable it to work with the BOINC stats. This is one possibility.

I have tried without success to use EXCEL to accomplish the job and it may be doable but it is beyond my skill level. So an EXCEL expert might be able to provide a fix.

Come on TeAm ... I know I'm surrounded by the most savvy computer guys in the world. Please help out here.

edit:

Here are some great stats created for us by Bok7575 aka Bok on the FREE-DC Forums!

I suggest you save the following links:

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - SETI

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - Climate Prediction

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - LHC

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - Einstein

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - Predictor

BOINC: TeAm AnandTech - Pirates

Since most of these were just created today, not all of the features are current. They will get better day by day.

Thank you very much, Bok :thumbsup::beer:

I have been in communication with the programmer that created the basic script for BOINC Synergy.

Here are some clips from our recent "conversations".

/smoke/
TeAm AnandTech is one of the top 5 Distributed Computing Teams in the
World and is in desperate need of a comprehensive stats program like the one you have done for BOINC-Synergy.

/sascha/
I know AnandTech very good as it is one of my favourite News sites

/smoke/
Is it possible for you to construct such a "script" for TeAm AnandTech?

/sascha/
It would be possible, however if you want something like the Synergy
scripts a lot of preparations must be done to make something like synergy
possible:

- A MySQL Database
- PHP-enabled Webserver (PHP 4.3.x would be best)
- Enough available traffic, as it would requrire to download the XML files
on every update and add the delta to the database.
- A possibility to start some kind of cronjob to trigger the update.

I thought many times to start my own complete Boinc Stats System under
OpenSource so that everyone can benefit from it, however during these
requirements I'm not so sure if this is acceptable for all users/teams out
there. What do you think?

I would love to code such a system, if AnandTech is interested to help out
beta-testing I would start on coding a new, freely configurable site which
supports all projects running under Boinc.

/smoke/
The idea of a comprehensive stats "site" would be a great idea.
Teams would be more willing to provide links to such a site if it was not
associated with any particular "team". Competition between teams is a
lot of the fun and recruiting is just like in sports ... the team that
recruits the best (most) players usually wins. lol

/sascha/
Yeah exactly my thoughts

/smoke/
What would AnandTech need to supply to help in your beta test?

/sascha/
Well I have to code the system first of course But the next steps would
require a lot of testing, fine-tuning and feedback, all things I hope to get
from AnandTech once the system is complete. My biggest problem is design,
so if anyone @ anandtech could help on this (layout, styles, fonts etc.) this
would be a huge help for me.

So I will code such a thing, however I must finish first two other projects
before I can start on it. I would think of a first beta 2-4 weeks after
starting it, but I cannot say currently WHEN i can start on it.

Though I would love to have our own proprietary TeAm AnandTech Stats, this seems to be a viable alternative. What say you, TeAm Mates? Do we have volunteers to help with this BETA test?

/I already know the answer/

The Lifemapper stats were in XML format (most others are CSV). What exactly needs to be done here?

If we could get a report for TeAm AnandTech every day showing any new members for each of the BOINC projects would be most helpful. This information does not seem to be available on any stats site I have been able to find.

---------------------------------------------------------------

It would also be nice (but not necessary) if TeAm AnandTech had its own stats table similar to this: http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php

This production by the BOINC Synergy team is the most comprehensive stats site for BOINC I've found but even it doesn't provide any information about new members that may have joined. It would be sort of nice to welcome the new members with a thread in our forums but thus far this has not been possible with any of the BOINC projects.

Not exactly the most elegant for what you're looking for Smoke, but if you look at the individual team stats the BOINC Synergy stats do show new members. Similar to how SETIatWork did/does it.

Very good, Space. I see where Rezag1000 joined the E@H TeAm yesterday and is currently #72 on that project. I had not noticed that before.

Then the new member info is available courtesy the Synergy Team. :frown:

If we could get a stats script for and by TeAm AnandTech that would be comparable, it would really be a "selling point" for our TeAm. I think we have a member who would be most happy to host such a stat site if the script was available.

This doesn't look too hard using xslt under Xalan or some similar xslt processor. I'll take a stab at it I guess.

And, do we have a database somewhere, where we can store "yesterday's" users, so we can look and see if they are new today??

Mark, it would be great if you could try.

Seti@Home Statistics

Notice examples of what other teams have done as well as the last paragraph that has links to the format description and files that contain the data.

I could fairly easily add Anandtech to my stats for the Boinc projects if you like. I'm tracking a few teams and adding others is trivial.

seti stats

Go to main stats to get the links to the other projects.. It might give people a chance to get involved in my new DCR stats too..I already have some people from AMD Users and US-Distributed joining in on the fun

Bok

*EDIT* Added for Boinc seti...

Thanks for the offer, Bok7575.

I was hoping for a stat script comparable to BOINC Statistics for the World - Synergy but completely responsible by and to the credit of TeAm AnandTech.

I would hope a team of our caliber could and would have their own creative stats. So for the time being I would like to give our guys a shot.

I use your FaD stats everyday. I must say they are one of best I've found.

I wonder if it would be too much trouble to have a stats page for each of our BOINC projects?

Bok7575, check your PMs.

If you look at the "fine print" at the bottom of the Synergy site:
"Based on code originally written by 'SieGeL'"
if that helps anyone.
