ElFenix, did you see that U of H is going to build a new $160M stadium? On front cover of chron.com

heard about it yesterday on the radio. UH needs it. robertson is a high school stadium. literally, it was built by HISD. UH's original stadium was rice stadium, then built by the city, rice, and UH. wasn't until later that UH's campus expanded and robertson became part of UH.

the only nice thing about robertson is they sell beer there. there are several high school stadiums around here that are nicer than that place.

Texas is not going to join the SEC. It might help them from a monetary perspective but they gain nothing in terms of competitive advantage in football. In fact they would take a step back. The Pac 10 is a much better fit for them. I'm sure other SEC regular contenders don't want to see them in the SEC either so it does work both ways.

the only way UT would go to the SEC is if it could demand improvement in academic standards, which the SEC would never agree to. only 2 AAU members in that conference. big 12 had 6. Pac Televen now has 8.

And all 11 B10 schools are AAU members.

So Boise State has announce they are moving to the Mountain West. I wonder if Kansas and K State will move there?

I'd really like the Big 10 to snag Kansas, but I don't think it will happen. Or at least, I've not heard any rumors stating that. It would be a great addition for basketball at least.

Both will only go to the MWC if there aren't any other options available.

Has Nebraska officially declared their move to the Big 10?

I think Kansas still has a shot, it all depends on how the "more desirable" teams shake out. I'm still hopeful Texas ends up in the B10 if aTm ends up going to the SEC

Exactly - Texas and aTm open up TV revenues. Getting Rutgers and Syracuse would be good as well. Screw ND.

ND is screwing themselves. They would be a great fit athletically and academically for the Big 10, yet they stubbornly cling to independent status in football while other notable independents (Penn State) saw the writing on the wall years ago. As I mentioned in another post, Notre Dame will probably arrive at a point in the not-so-distant future where it could have real problems finding quality opponents to schedule.

In my ideal world, the Big 10 adds Nebraska, Texas, Notre Dame, Kansas, and Syracuse or Pitt. Yes, I know -- Kansas isn't a perennial football power, but neither are Northwestern, Indiana, or Iowa. Kansas has a storied basketball program (like Indiana's) and would add to the prestige of the conference.

Now, I am pretty sure the Big 10 won't get Texas (unless they add TAMU as well, right?) and at this stage, reasonably sure they won't get Notre Dame either. So at that point, do you expand to 14 or just add Nebraska and stay at 12?

Not officially. Its rumored to be announced today by ESPN.

It was announced this morning by the MWC.

"We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference," said Commissioner Craig Thompson in a statement.

I wish the teams from the C-USA, WAC, etc... would get demoted to the FCS. Then divvy up all the big east, big12, and independent teams to the B10, PAC10, SEC, ACC, and MWC

 I just responded to one of your earlier posts, but then I saw this and it echoes my sentiments exactly. As a Purdue grad, I don't deny that I am a Big 10 homer and feel that from a combined academic/athletic perspective, it is America's premier conference.

I like your list, except I would replace Pitt with Rutgers. Gets more of the NYC/East coast viewer-ship.

I'm not too hopeful about Texas coming over either, but aTm seems to really want to join the SEC. If that happens I would think that Texas would give the Big 10 a look rather than the Pac 10. From a strictly revenue perspective, it would make more sense for Texas to join the Big 10.

I'm thinking Missouri and aTm are going to bolt to the SEC.

Just makes sense from a geographical perspective .

I guess it depends on where you live if its morning yet. But its afternoon for me and it was just announced. Even has the big breaking news banner on SI.

Saddens me that you put Iowa in the same breath as Indiana and NW, yet don't mention Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois or Purdue, most of which Iowa has a better prestige than.

Iowa is like most of the other Big 10 schools outside of Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Ohio State when it comes to football -- they might have a streak of good years here and there, but they aren't on the same level of the perennial elites of the conference. And yes, I know Michigan isn't up to its usual self, but it has the tradition and will be back.

Plus in terms of basketball, Purdue is #1 or #2 in the conference now (battling with Michigan State and maybe you could add Ohio State to the mix) and even though Indiana is rebuilding, it spanks all the other Big 10 teams in terms of tradition with only Michigan State being close.

you think purdue has that much tradition?

I remember them being a whipping boy until recent times in basketball

Iowa can suck a big one imo, with the BS recuiting crap, Indiana knows that goes now, as its all posion from the same source.......

I have nothing against Purdue, I hate indiana and Iowa

as for alex

wisconsin has been pretty big in football for about the past 15 years?

Iowa has been doing well, but I still hate you assholes

Okay, back on topic.

apparently, the Nebraska Chancellor is blaming Texas (not wanting a Big12 network) and Mizzou (wanting to leave) as for the reason they are bolting to the Big 10. Oh, and they don't plan on paying the exit fee. LOL.

Looks like the blame game has started. This might get ugly.

I don't think I necessarily said Purdue had great tradition in my post; I said they were #1 or #2 in basketball in the Big 10. They had a great team this past year and are projected as a top 5 program next year.

But now that you mention it, Purdue has tremendous tradition in basketball in the Big 10. They were very good particularly in the 80s and much of the 90s. IIRC, Purdue is #1 or #2 in number of Big 10 basketball titles won. Keep in mind that in the 70s, 80s, and the early part of the 90s, Big 10 basketball was owned by either Indiana or Purdue with only a few exceptions. Of course, when it comes to national championships, it is Indiana way ahead of everyone else.

Iowa can suck a big one imo, with the BS recuiting crap, Indiana knows that goes now, as its all posion from the same source.......

I'm a Purdue grad, but I always was a fan of Indiana basketball as well as it was an elite program. As a college basketball fan, it saddens me to see what happened to the program after Knight left, but I'm hopeful that Crean will get them back on top.

As I mentioned before, I acknowledge I am a Big 10 homer and that's why the likes of Nebraska and Kansas appeal to me -- for their tradition.
