Yes; A-Rod should break the record easily if he continues to play and doesn't get caught up in an injury / early retirement situation.

:thumbsdown:Barry Bonds:thumbsdown: will never be the HR King in my eyes

If I were Bonds, this is what I'd do: hit my 756th, but instead of rounding the bases, I'd step on 3rd, then leave the ballpark into the sunset.

It improves your bat speed. Giving one a little bit longer time before needing to swing. Also, the ball is hit with more power allowing the ball to travel further(home runs) and ground balls to get by infielders more quickly.

Exactly!

My thoughts are, he cheated and his record shouldn't count. That goes for all steroid users, too.

If I caught #755 or #756 I would pour lighter fluid on it and set it on fire. But I won't catch it cause I'm not going to go across the country just to watch a cheater cheat his way into the record books.

Essentially covered it. Also, take a look at the HUGE number of flyouts that are taken at the track cause "normal" hitters missed the ball by a bit. Give someone some 'roids, you get that extra 4+ feet to tack onto his asterisk-worthy record.

Overall, I'm not sure how many roidies there are, but take a look at some players and they are obviously disproportionately muscular. *cough* Bonds.

The guesstimate I came up with a while ago is 600-650 HR for Bonds without steroids, considering the late career surge (insane 2001-2004) and replacing it with a reasonable decline. Since then, I've seen a similar projection from somebody else writing for a one of the sabermetric sites, although his methodology was heavy on looking at increased HR distance, which I feel is *really* speculative and mostly a load of crap.

I think if he had made it close to 650, he would have desperately hung on (even if it meant DH'ing) to try and pass 660, since he has a hard-on for Willie Mays.

Up until now, all I've seen is some people say this and that in interviews/books (most likely being paid for the interviews/books too). Until somebody proved beyond reasonable doubt that Barry Bonds uses steroids, he should be treated like anybody else in the baseball and his records should be respected.

But if MBL is interested in the integrity of the game, they should do something to either prove or disprove Bonds's guilt and give him the proper respect if he is not guilty or kick him off the league if he is. The way this thing is going, there will always gonna be people questioning him, the record and the league, and that's not a good thing.

Wiat a sec. Did not Bonds himself admit to steroid use? That is proof enough, I woud think, since there was no duress pushing him to admit it.

A-Rod is going to destroy the record once Bonds sets it anyway - I'd be shocked if he held it for more than 8 seasons after this one.

Yes, it's Canseco again, he's an idiot, but he's been right on more than one occasion.
hahaha, Jose is back in book-selling mode.

Regardless of what he eventually says, it's obvious that the body type test is worthless. Physical appearance means almost nothing, Jason Grimsley and Benito Santiago wouldn't haven't been picked out of a lineup, but they were guilty. Nothing would surprise me, including some of the fattest players in the league being on something. As long as you keep eating and boozing like a hog, you can stay fat regardless of the hormones you're taking.

Same goes for the NFL.

I think that all pitchers against him should just walk him every time, every situation

Tough to hit a home run when you get 4 balls throw 3 feet outside

Although some situations for playoff contenders this wouldn't work

Even if he didn't dope (which he did) the science behind baseball makes it easier to hit homeruns now than it did in the past.

Better balls, bats, training, etc.

Aaron was a natural, started in the '50's and hit 'em the old fashioned way.

Then Pujols after that???

As for Bonds, as much as I wish he'd just go away, he won't. But he has no place baseball history, except in infamy.
