Its NOT, repeat NOT the BEST PLAYER AWARD. It is the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. There is a clear difference.

Bonds is the king of the solo homer and is a marginal defensive outfielder. Puljos is putting up triple crown type numbers.

Puljos .370 AVG 33 HR 105 RBI 105 R 40 K in 118 Games
Bonds .341 AVG 37 HR 77 RBI 88 R 49 K in 101 Games

I mean come one dude, How can you say Bonds is the MVP?

LOL. Marginal defensive player? How many gold gloves has he won? Obviuosly you haven't seen some of the great defensive catches he's made this year. And let me add this, very few outfielders today or ever had the arm to throw out guys either like Bonds. Bonds is the best player ever to live. Period. I am not a Bonds or Giants fan, but the closest players imo you can compare him too is Mantle or Mays. As for this year, Bonds will win it if the Cards miss the playoffs. If they make it Pujols I think will get it. But I don't think anyone you can complain with either of these guys whoever wins it. Marginal defensive player, lol, man some people.

Well, you can also compare him, production wise, to two of the three greatest batters to have ever played the game: Babe Ruth and Ted Williams.

Yes but Bonds is great everywhere. At the plate, in the field, on the bases, great arm as well. People like to talk down what BB has done on the field because he's a class clown. But I look at what he does on that field. And the numbers are scary. I also believe he's playing in a far more talented and complex era of baseball than Ruth. Ted Williams is not even in the discussion. Great player but not for an arguement of best ever.

i have to disagree, williams definitely IS in the discussion, top 10 player at WORST.

BB is a top 10 player also.

his D is overlooked. his Stolen bases are also overlooked.

probably be the only man in the history of baseball to be in the 600 hr / 500 steals club. by the time he's done the chances of him being in the 700 hr / 500 steal club is VERY VERY high.

those are amazing numbers.

I believe that right now the rankings would be:

1. Ruth
2. Williams
3. Bonds

Arrange it in any order that you like, but that's my order as of right now. You won't get an argument out of me if you arrange it differently though. Williams was truly a great player, too. It would be easy to make an argument for him as one of the best players ever. Bonds is easily the best player of this era - there's no competition for that title.

Ted Williams is definitely up there as one of the greatest hitters. He won the triple crown twice and is the last player to hit .400 avg.

Bonds however is probably the most feared. Ted Williams was probably more selective when it comes to hitting pitches while Bonds literally only gets to see two or three good pitches a game!

The way I rank it would be:

1.) Barry Bonds
2.) Ted Williams
3.) Babe Ruth
4.) Willie Mays
5.) Hank Aaron

Since Barry Bonds is out indefinitely and Pujols is slumping a little, maybe Gary Sheffield might get the MVP afterall!
