Some of the best snipers in the world are Canadian.

Canadian soldier Corporal Rob Furlong, formerly of the PPCLI (Operation Anaconda, Afghanistan) - holds the record for the longest-ever recorded and confirmed sniper kill at 2,430 meters (1.509 miles) using a .50 caliber (12.7 mm) McMillan TAC-50 rifle.

I'm unfamiliar with the Mk-13, all the snipers I knew used M40's IIRC

But even with a .306, this is an impressive shot. Afghanistan is friendly to snipers, nice dry, cool, clear air helps visibility

I did a quick search, and Wikipedia says that rifle comes in 2 flavors; .300 or 50-caliber.

A quick search also shows that the Mk-13 is simply a modded M40.

"Effectively engage"
Does that mean strike center mass? Would a shoulder or leg hit count?

Hardly, to make that shot he would have been using match grade ammo. The Mk 13 is a .300WinMag Good ammo for that is going to be $3-$5 a shoot. Still much cheaper than a hellfire that's for sure.

Adelbert has the most confirmed kills of any US sniper.
At least the guys in Nam didn't have aimbots.

The intent of a sniper is to put the target down to where it can not be a threat in the short term and hopefully never in the long term.

A limb would not prevent a return shot

If its listed as 1200 meter range, then I'm guessing its the .300 variety.

103 confirmed kills to 93 is hardly a large margin. Quality is way more important than quantity when it comes to sniping.

Hathcock scored hella points for taking out a General. in the NVA 1 general was worth about a million regulars. Did Mawhinney take out any high value targets?

Chuck is a neighbor of mine, and I went to high school with his kids, so I can always ask him about it.

He talks about Carlos being a huge attention whore though when asked about it. No one even knew (including us) about Chucks record until that book came out and the history channel came to our town to interview him.

While I appreciate a humble Chuck, that doesnt make him the better sniper.

Hathcock was known more for what he did after the war, had he just gone back to a quiet civilian life he'd probably be more like Chuck.

Hathcock is often referred to as the guy who "wrote the book" on Marine sniper program. Before him, snipers were just grunts who were identified as awesome shooters (similar to the "desingated marksmen" the corps has today). After him, there was an entire doctrine and school put in place to train them up in this specialty. Hathcock can be credited with passing down all his knowledge to create a whole generation of snipers that may have not even existed.

Actually comes in a few, .300wm, .308, .338 lapua, the .50 was like a MK-15, and I think there was a MK-12 in .223, this was some DOD site, I will get the link if you want.

Over on AR15.com there was a thread the other day about a guy who just got his 120th confirmed kill. Can't remember the rifle, wasn't pertinent. Think he was just a DSM.

I guess after the first few, it's probably no different than bowling pins.

Simo Häyhä

Using a standard iron-sighted, bolt action rifle in the Winter War, he has the highest recorded number of confirmed kills in any major war. In temperatures between −20 and −40 degrees Celsius (−4 and −40 degrees Fahrenheit), dressed completely in white camouflage, Häyhä was credited with 505 confirmed kills of Soviet soldiers, and 542 if including the unconfirmed deaths. The unofficial Finnish frontline figure from the battlefield of Kollaa places the number of Häyhä's sniper kills over 800.
