Boost My Wi Fi cantenna questions

My friend and I would like to see if we can network our computers. His house is about 100m from my house. We basically want to build 2 cantennas, and point them at eachother.

I've done little research, I am slightly familiar with WiFi technology.
Some of what I know is from this site
http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html

Here is one kit that I have found but its like $15
http://www.fab-corp.com/product.php?productid=1549&cat=264&page=1

What I am wondering is if anyone else has tried this lately, and has found the parts cheaper. All I need is the n-connector, and the pigtail (longer the better although I'm unsure of how much this would degrade signal strength).

Also for the pigtail, I get options for
- MC
- MMCX
- RPMMCX
- MCX
- RP-TNC
- RP-SMA
Can anyone tell me what these mean?

Thanks

those are differnt connectors, like RJ45, RJ11, RCA, F, etc

tbh, I would go with something like a wireless bridge in a rootenna kit. We do these with Smartbridges Indoor radios (sb2100 iirc) that run between $60-$120 on Ebay (radio only). Rootennas we get locally for something like $20 iirc.

I do not know much about connectors. What type would fit onto my Belkin Wireless card. I don't know the model off hand, but it is an internal card, and it has a removeable antenna.

Again my choices are
- MC
- MMCX
- RPMMCX
- MCX
- RP-TNC
- RP-SMA

Belkin uses RP-SMA connectors. You'll need an RP-SMA Male on the pigtail.

Figure loss at .5dB per connector. The kits max length pigtail is only 48", if you need more than that get a pre-made N to N LMR400 jumper from them. Line loss for LMR400 is around 6dB per hundred feet. Keep it short, 25' or less for that setup.

On a side note, I've had nothing but excellent experience with fab-corp, very fast shipping.

You may get this to work fine with 2 - 14dBi direction antennas. I have only one set up on my router pointed down to the lake which is more like 500ft, and I sit down there my laptop and it works fine.

14dBi Antenna

Thankyou for your help, I appreciate it.

I will probably end up getting it online from fab-corp, but I am still wondering if anyone can suggest something cheaper.
