@Jaydip, that doesn't make much sense. As Toyota said voltage also auto clocks so there is no point in messing with it. Are you also running some type of fan control with that profile?

Yeah I keep my fan @ 60%. DS as I said I don't have a valid explanation for this but this is what worked for me.

okay at 70 C its supposed to drop by 13mhz or so. well mine is dropping twice that at 70 C. it goes from 1253mhz to 1241mhz at 69 C then it goes to 1228mhz at 70 C. power target is not the problem as that is only about 110% and I have set to 145%.

EDIT: and this is at 98-99% gpu load so its not dropping because its not being needed.

Since it was previously working as it's supposed to, I'm wondering if this could be
1) a hardware issue where your chip is already degrading. Or
2) a software issue where for some strange reason there is software corruption going on? Have you tried reinstalling the nvidia driver as well as afterburner or precision X (I don't know which you are using)?

Don't you run a 560? You're not even in the same league as the rest of us. We're in the ocean and you're in the dora the explorer kiddy pool.

And toyota's raft just sprung a leak.

whats pissing me off more is that until today I could keep the fan at 65% at 65C and it would never go over 70 C. now I have to put the fan at 75% to keep it from going over 70 C. and this is the exact same part of Metro 2033 I have tested dozens of times and the temps i my room are no hotter than usual.

That isn't a good sign. I haven't received my card yet and this is giving me flashes of regret for not waiting on the msi power edition to come out.

My card never goes above 70c and never below 1240 now. It will run at around 1250 all the time even right up to 70c. I wish I had an answer but I can only describe my cards behavior. I run precision with a fan profile though.

I probably won't, but the msi power edition is an obviously better card so long as external exhaust isn't a requirement.

Doesn't matter. Voltage is locked so it'll overclock pretty much the same as every other 670/680

It supposedly might be unlocked on the power edition. And with dual fans, along with msi's twin frozr heatsink, it will be simultaneously quieter and cooler. A cooler running gtx670 will supposedly boost higher, so again, it's the all around better card.

ETA on release? MSI shows off a lot of great cards then doesn't release them.

ie 7870 Hawk.

It's supposedly imminent. The PR was last week, and the card is up on msi's product pages, but it's not yet available anywhere. Which is why I decided not to wait - I didn't know how long I'd be waiting for.

The power edition might squeeze out some more core speed but i'm with you. I hate freaking waiting

I would hardly call a GTX 670 a "raft". Sad that toyota points out a legitimate concern and those who probably don't even own a GTX 670 start to "pile on". Cobination of jealousy and arrogance. For me, I am amazed out how good the GTX 670 is performing for most of the posters. I love my GTX 680, just don't love that it cost a lot more.

You had the opportunity to have that performance before we did though. I was planning to buy a 680 and then I saw the 670 released and jumped on it.

Based on the raft quote, was this directed towards me?

toyota: Has Nvidia published a white paper detailing the whole boost concept? I ask because perhaps there is more discussion and testing data published in it to explain why this is happening. How are you measuring this drop in fps? Precision?

toyota, just a hunch, but is it possible that since you have the EVGA GTX 670 FTW and not the stock GTX 670 that your card reacts differently with boost? The stock card is clock 915 and boost 980. Your card from the factory is overclocked to 1006 and a boost of 1084 (that's per Newegg specs). Is it possible that since you are already overclocked that a drop due to high temps is a larger percentage in the FTW than stock?

These cards are all over the board with boost clocks. My one vanilla goes to 1125 stock.

I am using precision. if you can keep it under 70 C then most problems can be avoided since it should never throttle if it needs full gpu power. IMO Nvidia should have made that first throttle occur at 75 or perhaps even 80 since hardly any card can stay below 70 without having to make the fan ramp up to fairly uncomfortable levels. and also seeing a game start off below full boost even though it needs it is pretty irritating. the fact that I can restart the exact part of a game and see it sometimes use full boost and other times not under the same exact conditions means there is too much inconsistency here.

of course the jackasses at Nvidia did not even notice that Kepler cant maintain a certain framerate either. no matter what or how you cap it, it will continuously drop 1fps below it every few seconds even when standing still. Nvidia has promised this framerate fluctuation problem will be fixed this month but I only have few days left to decide if I want to keep my card.

it should drop at 70 and then at 80 after that I am not sure exactly what happens.
