You could install all of your OS's onto one HDD and then you will get a boot menu every time you power on where you select which one to boot.

When you boot up the case, go into BIOS, look for the option to assign which drive is the boot/first drive, and then your computer should boot from that one.

You can use your keyboard as the "remote control." For example, use a wireless keyboard.

If you don't want to be as careful to watch the computer when booting to enter BIOS, see if your computer has an option to always enter bios every time when you boot it up, to let you use the keyboard to assign whichever hard drive to boot from.

Look for a motherboard which has a boot selector, usually a function key, which permits you to boot from different disks. You should install the operating systems individually with only one disk connected at a time.

Otherwise, install the operating systems going from oldest to newest on your disks and you will get a boot selector menu on startup.

The first option is better as the OSs are individual from each other.

On most mobos, a function key pressed during boot will bring up the boot menu and allow you to choose the boot device.

BUT none of these methods will allow you to select a particular hard drive to boot off remotely.. I think he wanted to know how to boot the computer from one of many drives by calling it in to do different jobs. What he coudl do is to use some kind of power on adapter for external USB drives and turn on a particular drive and then send the command to the computer to boot up. That way the computer would boot using the powered on drive via USB.. It is a 2 step process.. You also need the other things to make that happen like Internet connection and router and the power supply controller so you could use your phone to connect to them and tell them to turn on etc.. Cheapest and easiest is some modules for home automation..

I'd like to see that happening for the house (front door, washing machine, TV, computer - of course, etc) and for the car, like unlock/lock the car when I am 1-2 meters away, start it and turn on the air condition to pre-cool the car before you get in on a hot summer day, and maybe some more applications where the smartphone can be used as a remote control or a proximity device.

You've been able to control your house and your car from a smartphone for a few years now.

Yes, but it has not become mainstream yet. I remember around 1990 people were doing some things with remote controls for fun usually. A little primitive compared to: I walk to my car and at about 2 meters it gets unlocked, opens the door, starts and waits for you; same thing when you get away from it.

Remote start from 2 meters as you are walking up makes no sense to me. I would disable that if my car had it.

I like the remote start on my 2008 Jeep. It works together with the climate control and the memory system to set itself up when I use my FOB. It even turn on the electric rear window and mirror defrosters if it's cold enough outside.

I'd love the same function from a phone.

Remote control from your home or office makes sense. Your car is warmed up and ready when you get to it. Or cooled down. No worries about your key FOB range, either.

You need a motherboard AND processor that support VPro/AMT , luckilly, many i5/i7 processors do.

You will get VNC or VNC-like access to the bios and boot menus.

Depending on what you want each of these drives to do, it might be easier to just set them all up as virtual machines and take control of the one you want, leaving the others sitting in memory unused.
