I second that. Nero can take any floppy image and burn it to a CD Drive using the Mt. Rainier standard. When I built my computer a year and a half ago, I was debating putting a floppy in there, but I realized its like 5 bucks, and it does no harm.

Score another victim of the "floppies are way toooo retro doooode" argument.

Thread #456,127 starting with "Here's my new $3500 system. Do I want a $6.99 floppy drive?"

Not until you need it! :disgust:

Yes, although it's more likely that Dell was trying to get rid of the floppy drive so that normal people don't screw up their system and call them for support. Most normal users give up when they realize that they can't just boot off the floppy their friend gave them.

And by this, I'm referring to installing OSes, newer BIOSes, running fdisk, basically all of the destructive activities that normally require a floppy.

My computer has been floppy free for almost 4 years now. Just make a bootable cd, that's all I use when I need DOS. If you have a second hard drive just put the files on that, or on a cd, whatever you prefer.

Does anyone have a link on how to create a bootable CD? Are there any other free softwares that can create a bootable CD? Also, I have a USB (128MB) Key and wondering if it's possible to boot a system with it?

Some of the USB key/pen drives are bootable, I believe it requires specific software that is capable of formatting the drive and a BIOS that allows booting from USB devices. Or you could try just copying on the necessary files (msdos.sys, autoexec.bat etc.) since I'm pretty sure this is all format blah: /s does.
