Booting from USB2 or Firewire

I was looking at getting an nForce2 board in my next system, and one of my primary goals is to have a machine that will boot off a firewire (preferred) or USB 2.0 device, if one is present. If not, it should default to the internal IDE drives. I'd be using Win2k or XP Pro on the external drive, and XP Pro on the internal drive.

Is this a configuration supported by modern BIOS's yet? Or is it still a bit too flaky to be dependable? If nForce2's implementation is no good, can someone suggest a better solution? I'd be willing to build an intel system if there is a more reliable solution there.

there are quite a few new boards that support this feature in bios. One that i know for sure has this feature is the Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Ultra. it is an Intel board.

Sorr I couldn't find anything though I must admit that beyond ocing features I usually don't spend time looking around the bios So it might be there but I just didn't dig deep enough

I do hope though the nforce2 has that...

But maybe it does because I'm using an Uber (unofficial) bios

Well, specifically, I was hoping this would work on that Shuttle nForce2 mini system. But would this be more a functionality of the motherboard chipset used, a specific bios, or a combination?
