Booting up too slow!!!!!!!

My boot times is almost 2 minutes! I'm using win98 and this happened after I installed my NIC. I remembered somebody saying that you have to disable something in the network properties so that win98 does not detect *Something*?? How do I do it? It's taking hell of a long time to boot up!

Unfortunetly, yes.

Set everything for the nic static - the IP address, the speed (if the network is 100 and your nic is a 10/100, it will "detect" 100 at startup, but since you know what the network speed is, set it to 100 by default)...etc. If you are not on a network, either setting the IP static or disabling the nic in device manager will let you boot faster (it won't sit searching for the network)...

Well, I have a LAN at home. I play games in both IPX and TCP/IP. How do I set it to static??

Well, I'm not the network guru, so I may be talking out of my arse here

I assume you're using a hub, and if you haven't already set an IP for your NIC, then I guess it's being assigned automatically at bootup. Then I guess you would just go to winipcfg, get your IP, then NN properties, select your nic under TCP/IP, properties, and &quot;Specify an IP address.&quot; Put in the same one that was already assigned with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

Yeah, it was a little squeaky...I sprayed some wd-40 on it and worked it a little bit

Here's the deal. My friend is using WinME ICS to share his DIAL UP connection with us. I'm using win98SE. All my network settings are the default windows setting. How do I know what IP am I suppose to set? Is it 192.168.0.2??? My boot up time is still 2 minutes and it's irritating me.
