Booting up

I have an Asus A7V KT133 motherboard and have lateley been having problems booting up my computer.
I press the on button and the system does not boot up and only after pressing the reset button two to three times does it then boot up. What gives? Would appreciate a solution to this problem.

Further to my query - I am using Windows XP Professional.

Maybe it's your powersupply. It takes a little burst of electricity in order to get everything all initialized and some power supplies when they get old and crusty or overworked they can't do it correctly.

I've had that happen on a couple computers before and that was the problem. It's probably nothing to do with your operating system.

Also you may want to see if there is a new bios update aviable for your motherboard that may have something to do with powering up. I wouldn't flash it though unless I had a reason too.

Also check the power supply connectors to your motherboard, mabye they are dirty and need to be cleaned out, or be wiggled around a bit to make a better contact.

I replaced the power supply with a new one and am still having the same problem. I have noticed that after having used the computer for a period of time and shut it down that it starts normally when I reboot it immediately after shutting the computer. The reset button is not used in this case.

Well some 80 year olds are still very active and right at the moment I cannot financially upgrade my computer. Now, would you by any chance have any solutions to my problem?

A low-cost or zero-cost solution? You might try underclocking the system. I had an A7V six motherboards back in my history, and can probably rummage up a .PDF manual to help with that goal. What CPU do you use in it?

I am using an AMD Duron 800 mhz processor.

Ok cool With any luck it'll be multiplier-unlocked and you can kick it down a little, maybe to 600MHz. I'm fetching the manual at 56k speeds, so this will take me about 30 minutes or so.

Here's an image highlighting the 6.0 multiplier dipswitch settings: link to image Can you look near the AGP slot for small letters telling what revision of PCB it has? It'll be pretty small, REV. 1.02 or whichever.
