For anyone running WinXP, Bootvis seems to work really well. I just ran the optomize function of it and now winXP is done booting up under 45 seconds from pressing the power button. WinXP only as far as I know.

That's quite an interesting program. I'll have to try it out sometime, if I can ever bring myself to reboot this system (9 days uptime right now and still going strong).

Heh, not surprising that their javascript/whatever isn't working in mozilla, oh well, I suppose it's not that important I found out more about it anyways

hmm interesting.

What does it actually do?

And is it reversible? Or uninstallable?

I've tried this program a couple of times and it's never done anything for me. It claims to optimize your startup, boot into Windows faster, etc... I wish it did but it just seems to have no effect.

After a reformat this is one of the first programs I install to my computer. For me there is a noticeable difference in boot time. When Boot_vis is not installed, it tends to hang on the welcome screen for a while. After Boot_vis is installed there is no more hang at welcome screen

Ken, I agree that boot_vis is usefull. But one note, XP is slower during the first couple of boots after install while it automatically creates some of the smartloading files needed. So, if your installing this first and then noticing the system being faster, part of this might be 'normal' as the system optimizes itself. If your still seeing the improvment after a few boots after a new install, then it is indeed boot_vis making the difference.

I guess the starup time varies depending on the number and type of auto-startup application you're running (applications, services, related .dlls, etc.). Have you tried running "optimize system startup"? Do you have DHCP turned on? (if so, set the ip manually) It's too bad if it doesn't work for you but this program has helped many users reduce the boot time (there were many threads relating to bootvis months ago).

What the optimize actually does is the same thing running "defrag c: -r" at a command prompt does. It moves all the boot files to the right places on the disc so that it can load them faster. I think the best thing about bootvis is the reporting: it'll show you what part of your bootup is taking a long time and then you can go and investigate why this is and fix it. The program isn't really for the casual user, more for power users. Using it, I got my boot time down to 28 seconds!

I tried BootVis, and it didn't help me at all

If I can't fix this problem with this slow startup, expect a new thread from me tomorrow

Did you look at the graph it gives you after restarting and see what's causing the slow startup?

Yes!

After several days....my boot up time is definately a bit faster. About 15% or so.

From standby is bit faster too.
