Guy on craigslist had this tv for sale locally. Said it hasn't worked in a couple years. Asked him the symptoms and he said green blinking timer light on front.
Researched this and found that its common to have some capacitors go out prematurely due to their heat rating and voltage rating. Fix is to desolder and replace the 85 degree, 16 v caps with 105 degree, 35 volt caps. In all, I replaced 10 caps, 1000 microfarad and 2200 microfarad with some I ordered from digikey. Half of the caps were bulging and 2 had leaked a bit. The others looked good, but since I was in there already, I just replaced them.
Put it all back together tonight and voila, it powered up and I was watching tv.
I ended up paying $90.00 for the TV and about 20 bucks for the caps plus shipping (bought some spare caps)
I had to take out about a zillion screws, remove tons of cabling, etc, and in the end, it all worked, even with leftover parts
Its a WD-62725 model
Thinking this TV would go well out in my man cave (Garage). I already have a 65 inch rear projection in the basement. Maybe I'll just sell it and try to get $500.00 for it. Would be nice to have the extra cash right now for presents and some speakers.
