They have them in many stores here because the supermarkets stock such a large quantity of booze. They generally only put these on the more expensive bottles of booze. I think it's more to keep people from breaking the seals on the bottles than anything.

I have never seen such a thing. Also I'd HIGHLY recommend against breaking it and drinking. While it sounds like a good idea but you do NOT want any glass in your digestive system.

They're a major freaking hassle, because they don't keep one of the devices to remove it at every register, so if you don't check out in the one aisle that has it, you have to wait for them to go take it off.

I had this happen once on a bottle of Tequila. My wife wanted to make Margaritas.

I took the bottle out in the garage, and clamped it to the work bench. Then I got the Saws-All out and proceeded to cut away the top. Took me about 10 minutes to remove .

nothing can fall inside, its a sheath of plastic around a plastic core, its just a load of plastic to cut off. but its easy because it pretty much just melts through with a dremel blade. its obvious once you start cutting it and you can see more.

drilling through the top just puts plastic particles into 30 dollar liquor.

It takes less than two minutes and it's simple and you won't have anything spilling nor glass in your drink.

Crude? Who gives a fuck, it's not like it will taste any different if you'll use a more elaborate method.
