Does one benefit greatly by playing Borderlands before playing Borderlands 2? Or is simply starting from BL2 good enough?
I think BL2 is a more polished game. I also think if you play BL2 first then you won't have fun with BL. I'd play the first one first.

Well, I finally finished the main game. Glad but kinda sad too. But now there are the DLC to get and play with. I played most of the side quests and I ended up level 34 on my Commando once I got to the end. Still have quite a few optional quests to finish up.

Either start True Vault Hunter Mode or a new character.
I have a sniper which originally was my main. I figured I'd like it the most since I tend to gravitate to snipers and archers in games. So far I'm really liking the Commando the most. Guess I'm weird. Got a young Gunzerker but not really liking it to be honest. I have a buddy that we play co-op together. Usually got two others that join in as well. That's a lot of fun. We only get together once a week but I look forward to it each time. I need to figure out what this TVHM is and try it out. I need to get some DLC too. Looking for some Steam Xmas deals. I'm sure I'll find some.
True Vault Hunter is nothing to get excited about, in my opinion. It's like a dungeon in WoW or something, just a bunch of enemies to fight to get extra levels to milk a bit more money out of you after you finish the game, that's how I see it.
The Season Pass is on-sale for $20 on Steam right now, I think, and it might get lower on a daily deal, so keep an eye on that (and buy it for $20 at the end of the Steam Holiday Sale, if nothing else). I just got the GotY Edition on 360 so my cousin and I can co-op, and it's a lot of fun. The only negative is that we play on the same console, and splitscreen's a bit annoying. We're in the high-teens, I'm and Assassin and he's a Siren.

True vault hunter is just a complete replay of the game at a higher difficulty. I don't see how that is a money grab. I don't remember for sure, it may have cost to unlock ultimate vault hunter mode, but for sure TVHM costs nothing.
