Question about that build--could be that I don't understand where these points go in each tier.

Why the 2 points in Be Like Water and not in Headshot from the Sniping Tier? It seems like that would be a huge boost to crit hit damage 8%--vs the 12% regular damage you get from mele with the conditional on a gun shot (from BLW). Is that crit damage from Headshot only for sniping? I wouldn't think it is...

....is it that you have a low crit chance with this build? Actually, I see no skills for Zero that increase crit %....that blows. Didn't realize that before. I think the Siren is loaded with them, no? Is this why someone mentioned earlier that Siren makes better use of Sniper rifles than Zero?

oh derp--I see where I am goofing. There is no crit chance, right? Criticals are target based in BL (basically head shots and other mob-specific weak points).

OK, then...so with the mele build, are you basically getting a low abundance of critical targets? From the videos, it seems that you're just running around and popping off as many hits as you can, as soon as you're in range, so criticals aren't really much of a concern?

Those 2 points are there probably for the off times you go into ffyl and there is no one up close. You can put them wherever you want though.

For the average person, maya does more damage with the sniper because of wrecks fire rate increase and phase lock mostly, but her other skills do help, especially reaper (more damage if enemy is above 50% health). She can do max damage the whole time phase lock is active.

Zero has to have a fully loaded clip and be at the last second of deception for max damage.

So basically maya can quickly blast away doing 500k per shot on a target that doesnt move for the whole time its phase locked, while zero might do 2000k on the first shot, he then has to reload and wait for deception for come back, so his damage drops off, not to mention the target is moving all around so you might miss the shot. For most people over time maya wins, unless your some godly sniper who has crazy reflexs and will never ever miss his shot.

TLDR, zero does high burst damage, but Maya is more consistent over time so her damage outpaces zeros when playing as a traditional sniper.

I don't think I've ever really listened to the banter. My biggest problem is Claptrap. He went from being silly but loveable in the first game to downright annoying as hell. That was a bummer alone because I like Claptrap! I have his poster and the figurine.

Wow, really? I found him mostly annoying in the first one (I wasted many a bullet in countless futile attempts to kill him), but from the opening in this I loved him.

His morose home, with all the dead bodies of his friends, the crippling depression, the fact that no one shows up to his birthday party.

I didn't realize I actually needed to high five him in that short quest. I just stood there, and he went on and on with a new phrase.

That's what I always like about these games--the attention to the little things. The amount of dialogue is actually staggering when you consider the bits that people don't normally pay attention to.

ETA: Another thought: There's something in this game apparently labeled "health gate" or "health gating", where apparently even if you're lvl 1, no single enemy's attack, even if it's the toughest boss in the game, can take you from above 50% health to dead in one hit. So if you can rapidly gain health, and at least get above 50% health, you won't die. If you'll notice in that video I linked earlier, the player gets super low in health, down to just a few percentage points of his total hp pool, and this happens multiple times. The reason for this is health gating. He should have died most likely, but health gating prevented it.

OK, that is good to know. I did not realize this was happening.

Thanks--and duly noted. I'm not generally a min-maxer, so I've been spreading points out across maya's tiers--actually been ignoring the central tier, which everyone seems to like, more than the others, and so at level 28, only just now unlocked the action skill augment line. Things are getting better.

I agree. I actually didn't play these games for the longest time, because all I ever heard about them was "blah loot blah loot blah blah guns blah loot and guns blah blah i eat my own poop blah blah more loot."

I only played it after a friend gifted me a copy, and I can't tell you how surprised I was that the game had some really great writing and dialog quality, superb voice acting, and interesting, unique characters and environments. All the things I look for in a great single-player game.

...

This is one area that 2 really shines over 1, is the little things they put into the game. For example, at one point Jack is talking about using a spoon to kill some guy while in front of his kids, when you 1st get to overlook. Occasionally you can hear someone walking around in Sanctuary talking about how his dad was killed by a spoon, etc.

Not too mention all the easter eggs.

For dialouge, once in a very great while, you will see some bandit start quoting shakespeare. He goes on for like 2 minutes.

I love that story. He goes on a massive tangent and then goes. Well I guess the morale of the story is... You're a total bitch.

I cant decide whos banter I enjoy more.

Handsome Jack, Claptrap or Tiny Tina.

I didn't mind most of Claptrap's dialog, but it was the repetitive stuff that annoyed the bejeesus out of me. The worst was probably the dubstep stuff when you're just walking around Sanctuary. THANKFULLY, that stops after his failed party.

Tiny Tina definitely.

"I'm a little teapot, bloody and cut! Here is my handle, here is my butt."

"You're cordially invited, bitch!"

"Gonna eat so many goddamn crumpets. It's gonna be a crumpocalypse."

The dialogue and voice acting are really what brought BL2 alive for me and where the starkest difference between it and BL exists. Ultimately they're both "ok" shooters with a heavy loot component; nothing particularly compelling at their core. But BL2 has so much to love in it's presentation that it's one of those rare times where I'm ok that the gameplay itself isn't that great. If nothing else, I happily beat BL2 twice through but never even wanted to pick up BL again after opening the vault once.

oh, that's a shame. Did you play the BL1 DLC? it's quite amazing. I still think the guns and loot system are overall better in BL1. Seems a slight difference, for now, though.

Knoxx and Claptrap are must plays--and the Dr Ned Zombie Island one, if you're into zombies.

I followed claptrap around sanctuary for 10 minutes the other night laughing my ass off at some of his off the cuff remarks...And I too felt sorry for the lad at his b-day party.

My one complaint with BL2 has always been that 90% of the commentary seems to come when I'm in the heat of battle and I can't understand a word anyone is saying...

I just beat the game finally. I'm a level 32 soldier, so now True Vault Hunter mode is unlocked.

I'm wondering something though...what is the recommended route to take to play this game? I own all the DLC and haven't played any of it. Should I start a new game in TVHM and start from the beginning, or start on the DLC in my current game, or what? I'm confused lol

^wondering this myself. Assuming it's like BL1, some of these DLC will level lock the mobs depending on when you start it.

Meaning, you don't want to go into one at level 32 and be forced into level 33-45 mobs throughout all of the content.

For BL1, I think it was generally playthrough 2.5ish where you start the DLC. basically...max level.

And now there is a new max level released since the earlier DLC, so I don't know how that works.

I also just finished the first playthrough last night. dinged 32 when I busted a cap in Jack's face. That was satisfying.

I think ideally you want to finish playthrough 2 before doing any of the DLC, because at that point (I believe) all the DLC scales with your level (up to level 50 anyway). You have to start Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode for things to scale past 50 I believe.

My highest character is a lvl 36 Zerker so I'm only a little ways into TVHM at this point.

ok that sounds about right.

I already started my Zero in normal mode....kinda thinking I will see him through before the Siren now. that build looks so fun.

Zer0 class mod SHiFT key:

CBWJ3-S5CJ3-WTTCF-WX333-9STBF

It'll appear at the same level of the first character you load, so keep that in mind.

Is it possible/worth it to download a max character to load after entering these codes? I got the game but haven't started playing yet.

I wouldn't do that. Then you won't be able to appreciate the different tiers of power increases. You have nothing really to look forward to at that point other than gear.

But do these (and previous item shift codes) create something unique that wouldn't otherwise be attainable? I really don't want something like that stuck at level one.

No, it's just a random loot drop, of a specific type. You don't have to enter the code immediately. It should be available for a number of days, so you could always get a number of levels first before it expires.

I bought this game 2 weeks ago during the GmG sale and just got to lvl 50 on Zer0. I haven't played any other classes but I am about to beat TVHM. When's the best time to use the golden keys? I used a dozen in my 40s to build up the arsenal for the 2nd playthrough but not sure if I should use the rest at 50 or save them for 61?

How's online co-op these days? I've only played solo so far but thinking of going online for the ultimate mode.
